Start it off with a vid of me going up the punch bowl.

Great trip. Lots of haze but views to the north seemed better. That was fun. Thanks for a great day.

Some shots from the trip.

#1 Snowmass and Hagerman from Lead King

Few More.

#1 Traffic Jam - Real bummer. There was a guy outside our party there that probably sealed the deal for that large group of Jeeps that ended up backing up. We probably should have. Felt bad.
#2 Sign leaving Crystal.
#3 In the Canyon on Schofield Pass trail.
#4 More in the canyon
#5 The rock slide that people had been referring to this year
#6 Just after the bridge heading up the obstacle that is the Devil's Punch Bowl.

Another video. My friend Keith is turning into THE guy to take on trips. Paid for both nights at the hotel, was giddy the whole trip, fun, AND he made videos and put together a Google Earth File of the trip and the interesting waypoints. Just nuts.

Thanks Dave for being tour guide and sharing a camp for the night. I enjoyed the trip and meeting everyone. Blueberry and I had fun. Christo builds a great rig. BTW...I did check with a tape when I got home - she's a full 7" wider than my wife's 80 (5 in the body I think, and the other two must be with my wheels sticking out - my widest point). She's a beast and can handle most anything, but playing "skinny" isn't her forte. Can you say "pucker" on a few of those spots? Most wasn't bad - even the off-camber spot by the Devil's Punchbowl was no biggy, but that narrow spot nearer the top above the punchbowl...Wow!...my guardian angels want a raise. I'd take the wife's 80 up that 50 times before trying that again in my "full-figured girl".

Before I bought her I was worried she might be tippy - Christo assured me she wasn't. He was right - those extra seven inches in width really help stabilize her...but it sure makes those shelf roads feel a bit skinnier. They almost had to rename it the "Devil's Blueberry Punchbowl". I guess the sign says narrow wheel bases only for a reason - and I helped cave off a little more.

Great fun though. Thanks again. I'll try to post a couple groups of pics.

#1 My pre-trip run over Kebler Pass - great for colors
#2 Starting out - enroute from Carbondale to Marble
#3 Great view from Lead King Basin trail
#4 Crystal Mill - sans fishermen Paul
#5 Dave crossing bridge heading up Schofield

A few more pics:

#1 Dave and trailer (aka Dust Generator) coming through tough spot on Upper Italian Creek shelf road

#2 One of the Crested Butte FJ crew that joined us - forgot name, sorry

#3 DavesTaco underway after tire change

#4 A view from slightly below shelf road

#5 A reason to remember to be careful...especially Blue Whales like me

#6 Yep, we hugged the uphill/non-ledge side as much as we could on some of the skinny spots -- maybe not always necessary but without co-pilot to spot the ledge it seemed safer.

The tricky part of the shelf road wasn't too bad (my first time there) -- at least it was plenty wide if you were willing/able to tackle the big rocks on the inboard side. Nevertheless, I'd still say much of the upper trail had some fairly narrow sections - plenty safe, but probably more fun for you guys 7-10 inches skinnier than me. :) BTW - thanks Crested Butte crew for ignoring that piece of blue molding scraped off at the fallen tree...hmmm, I wonder what rig that goes to... ;)

Great pics, thanks everyone for sharing! It looks like the first section of the difficult talus shelf section of Italian Creek Road has shifted since I was last there - and someone had a hard lesson - ouch! I love the way the trails change every year...

Eric ... Btw I guess it was just a stolen vehicle someone rolled on purpose (no one inside) a few years ago. Doesn't seem as exciting that way I guess...

Well, now that's just rude! And further evidence that I haven't been up there in WAY to long!!

Found this info on the web from an information request made to the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office concerning the Pathfinder that rolled down the side.

Subject: RE: Request for information.

This vehicle was stolen from the City of Gunnison in 2009. We did an investigation that lead us to no suspects.

We turned the vehicle wreckage over to the Forest Service and they have chosen to leave it.

Thank you for checking on the situation.

Thanks for taking me on such a great trip...this has really inspired me to get my Tacoma off the pavement and into the big rocks to the west of home!
