Ok,

The 80 has it on the passenger rear about 20% of the time, especially when it's cold.

The SC300 passenger door won't open or close. It twitches but doesn't move.

What typically is the problem with these? Some one please tell me there is something simple to do with the latch mechanism. The actuator looks like a bitch to get at.

Sometimes the striker thing in the door jam gets loose, and that will cause confusion with the little light switch, as well as associated locking features. Way back when the round light around the ignition was flicking on when I turned right, and it turned out it was because I was leaning on the door just enough to open up that switch. For whatever reason though the other interior lights didn't come on, just that ignition one. But tightening that little striker thing solved it. hth.

Interesting.. My driver's door auto unlock mech. does not work in the heat. Fine now and in the AM but in the heat of a summer day, it won't budge.

My 80 has the same problem on the PS front. Could it be the linkages in the door?

Sounds exactly like the actuator motor issues we've had in both a 100 series and a Rav4.

Both cases, the only fix was replacing the motor or actuator. Hasn't happened in my 80 yet though, they seem real strong.

How difficult is that? :wrench: I assume a used one would probably work?

I would just replace with new unless you just want it to work and take the chance the used one dies soon also.

It is a pain to get in the door, but not difficult, there are bits and pieces that break easily, so be gentle.

The 100 series crowd was able to source replacement motors that cost $5, I have no idea if they fit an 80, but the fix worked great for me in my 100 and saved a good bit. Might be worth looking into.

That is a perfect link for the 80. I can do that. I found one for the SC300 too and guess what? It's staying broken.
