I finally drove this bad boy today. Cruised her around for about 20 miles, runs great! :D

next up, i gotta find a soft top, need to work on the brakes some more, probably should go get my hard top and paint it and the doors, speedo cable, put some seat belts in it, make sure I have the alternator wired up right, you know minor stuff.

thanks everyone that gave me cheap and free parts and helped out with it.

So sweet Kipper!

How long has it been since you had a 40? I know when we were at CM '03 you had one...

You gotta have a 40! I learned after I sold my first 40 that I must always own an FJ40. Otherwise I annoy my wife sending her craiglist ads for them and waste so much time searching for a great deal. you guys that have had 40's and sold them know what I'm talking about. there's just an emptiness in your garage and heart.

Wes and Mike hooked me up with a deal on this one, I think the truck was the cheapest part of the project :lmao:

It is a '66. I put a drivetrain from a '78 in it and spray painted it green. It looks better in this pic than in person, but still looks pretty good. It has rust, dents, etc., but I like it that way. It's still a solid truck. I have some pics around somewhere of it when I got it. It was pretty funny, someone had sanded it down for a paint job and then just left it parked outside for a few years. Yikes.

wow, that is great. I don't think I've ever seen those pics before. who stole that sweet center console?! you've been waiting like 5 years, what's a few more on the tires? i'm thinking 33x10.50's. I have some springs for it too.

the whole drivetrain that I got which was "in great shape!" was full of water when I bought, pretty much had to go through everything. the guys at mountain high performance did a great job on the head. Check out this gear lube, pretty much the story with this truck:

rocky mountain driveline in my old 'hood did the shafts for me. shorted/lenthend, swapped flanges, new u-joints, balance, fancy paint and stickers

my boys love working on the cruiser with me. once they got to be old enough to get out in the garage and tinker with me, I started making some progress.

i had been telling my wife for years I'd paint the garage once the 40 was running. well as soon as she heard it fire up the first time, I was doing this a week later, painted the walls and ceiling and epoxied the floor. I hated every second of it, but I looooove it now!

And I think you just about doubled your post count on the forum. ;)

Sweet 40. My kids still love cruisin' in mine, and their friends always have to climb up and take a look during drop off/pick ups. Sadly, the biggest attraction still seems to be the old cigarette lighter.....

I'm finding it's not just the kids that find old 40s to be a kick. Had an old guy, well, my age anyway, ask if I wanted to trade my 40 for his 44' dual axle motor home while at Costco the other day. I used to think that having a snorkel on a Cruiser was the big attention getter and now I think a 40 is even more of a conversation starter.
Kipper, has it really been that long since seeing you and your wife at Sloan's? She was mighty pregnant that day but the boys are looking mighty large now. Time flies and we are surely having fun - in our 40s! :thumb:
Geez, I wish I was in my 40s again.
