So I have a gentleman interested in the 3 speed I have for sale for his FJ55. The trans is a floor shift 3 speed from a '72 FJ40 and he has a '70 FJ55 that is column shift. I'm pretty sure it is a direct fit but I have been wrong all too often lately and would like the opinions of the masters. He is primarily looking to convert to the floor shift.

I thought I heard years ago that all the 3 speeds were column shift from the factory and the floor shift was an aftermarket option but I don't know if that is true. Would it be quicker and easier for him to swap the shift housing than to swap the whole transmission, assuming they do interchange?

Thanks guys.

yes, he can put the shifter lever housing and shifter onto his tranny

Thanks for the help on this question

Just to clarify..the 55 is a column shift with the vaccum transfer case with a bad first gear. I'd like to know if this 72 tranny and transfer would be a direct bolt in on the 55.
