View Full Version : Body/paint work...recommendations?

Now that the mechanicals and interior in my 1976 FJ40 are in
reasonable shape, it's the body's turn for some attention. It needs
a new rear sill, either repair or replacement of rear quarters, a
few additional rust spots addressed, and paint.

I failed art in kindergarten, and my hand skills have been going
downhill since then. So this is not something I want to do myself.

So...opinions wanted. Is it a good idea to send it out to a Cruiser 'restoration'
shop such as Proffitt's, Cruiser Corps, or Salida Cruisers? Or is there
a competent and reasonably priced body shop in the front range that
could do this, and do it well? I realize it will be big $$$ in any case,
and I've been saving $ with that in mind. I'm not looking for show/full
restoration quality, but I do want quality work at a fair price.

Opinions wanted! What do you think?

Also....if you have any experience - good or bad - with any Cruiser restorers or body shops, please post or PM me. I'll keep it confidential. Thanks.

Try Redline Cruisers in Calhan, CO. They do restorations as well as custom builds plus Justin is a member of Rising Sun. He goes by RLMS on the forum.

Joe Calleja at CTS in Conifer has also done that kind of work. Also a Rising Sun member. (303) 838-4772

Thanks all for the posts and PMs. If you have any more recommendations
for shops that should be on (or off) my short list, let me know.

I've had him do some work on my other cars. He's got a sweeeeet shop and is always doing restos on Mopars and cool classics. Jim is also a "Toyota" guy who worked in some capacity for toyota for years. He gets it and our addiction...I'll be having him do the rear quarter trim (ala Crash) on my 60.

Exotic Bodies by Jim (Yes...it's an Auto Body shop) :D

I think he's worth thowing in the mix, for sure.
