Anybody parting an 80 that has a leather steering wheel in decent shape? Mine has started to wear through in one spot and I don't really feel like ordering a reconditioned one from Atlas. I don't need the center section, just the rim. Mine is "oak".

I can't help, but interested in what people say. Our grey 80 is in the same boat. How do you order a reconditioned one, and who is Atlas?

Thanks,
Abe

Abe,

I'm hoping he can do Tundra steering wheels. Someday.

Folks on MUD report good experience with the Wheelskin (http://www.wheelskins.com/) covers.

Based on the pictures on MUD, if you get the right color it looks pretty close to original or at least not like some cheap POS. The 80's steering wheel is looking bad and I was thinking of going this route. The wheel on the LX is fine so go figure.

Anyway, just an option. If you do a search on MUD you'll find threads with pictures so you can judge for yourself if the covers look good or like caca :hill:

Abe...Atlas is guy named Shane on MUD. I think his user name is actually AATLAS1X and he sells new leather for the seats, arm rests, shifter, and will recondition your steering wheel for a small fee :D - Those that got new leather for their seats seem to love it (Romer, Treeroot) and I'm thinking that is in my future as well.

I used his kit for my seats and they worked out very well. I passed on the wheel 3 years ago b/c it was fine at the time, although a little discolored in a few spots. Well, those spots quickly turned thin even with using a sun shade every single time we park.

I used a wheelskin on my 60 and it was pretty nice. Trick is they are universal, so the spoke section will not be wrapped and this can annoy you. Shane's work comes back looking exactly like the factory leather. I think it was around $400 bones tho

I just asked Shane if he would sell me just the leather & thread. I did a leather wrap on an Acura I had in highschool and it was really pretty simple.
