View Full Version : needed: Air intake hose for 2F, 40

I have a hunch the emissions folk may want to see a hose here.. plus I'm sure it can't hurt to be able to suck in air that doesn't come right off the manifold, so I'm wondering if anyone has one of these hoses around? It's the big intake hose that connects the air cleaner housing with the scoop at the front of the engine bay.
The PO  told me an OEM one is too expensive, and better to fab something else up. The extra 80 one that I've got is too big, so that ain't gonna work. Anyone have one of these laying around? tia..

how about some silicone hose like the ones people run on their precooler setups?

There better not be any PO bashing here. I know where you live!
I think it was $60 from Toyota with discount.
It's $72.11 from Specter Off-Road. Link (http://www.sor.com/sor/products2.tam?xax=18351&category%2Ectx=012%2D30&page%23%2Ectx=012)

Thanks.. and yikes!
Bought one at checker, $12. Essentially a dryer hose that's the right ID. functionally seems as good as the OEM one, material not as robust I'm sure it won't last as long, we'll see. Should get me by until the next 2F part out comes around...
Also took the wire wheel to the scoop. :grinpimp: :smokin:

Since this turned into a tech thread of sorts I wanted to add this link for anyone with an FJ40, FJ60 of FJ62 that needs a replacement hose. This guy BTUMAN has a pretty good option available here:

I bought a 3" plastic intake hose at Pep Boys, of the sort typically used by low-riders for custom intakes. Fortunately, it was black. It fit pretty well and looks ok.
It's designed to be crinkled and uncrinkled to fit, sort of like a flexible drinking straw, but I had to chop some off to ultimately get it to fit. I couldn't find 3" duct hose (like that shown above) in stock anywhere - had to be ordered.
