Hi Everyone, I figured I needed to do a quick little intro before I did too much more posting.

My name is Brad Cockrell and I currently own a 72' FJ40 and a 98' 4Runner. My wife, three kids and I live in Castle Rock and we absolutely love Colorado, we're both natives.

I picked up a 72' FJ40 about 6 months ago as a project to enjoy with my kids. My oldest will be 15 this summer so I figured now would be a great time to teach him some basic auto mechanics before he gets behind the wheel. We're currently waist deep in a frame off restore on the 72' and hope to have it done this summer.

My other truck is a 98' 4Runner, it's my dedicated trail rig. It used to be my wife's daily driver until I stole it from her and decided to build it up. It's one of the best trucks I've owned by far and has done everything I've ever asked of it. It doesn't get driven much as it's currently the dedicated camping and wheeling rig.

Prior to my current collection I've owned several 4Runners, trucks, and FJ60s. The thing I enjoy most is building the rigs up, I always seem to be a sucker for those sad looking trucks that need a lot of TLC. I also enjoy getting out and wheeling with the family in this amazing place we call home.

I've been a long time lurker on Rising Sun and even attended a meeting and trail run once. I also stopped by the RS Swap Meet this past summer and met a lot of nice folks. Being new to FJ40s, I'm sure I'll have many questions along the way, hopefully I can contribute some too. Thanks for having me!

I'm also an active member of the Front Range 4x4 club.

Here's a few pics of my current rigs.

Not that I'm aware of. I picked it up about six years ago and it was pretty rough at the time. It took me couple of years to get it built up and then I decided to sell it. Since then I know it's seen a couple owners, most recently was a guy on Mud who had all sorts of plans for it. Not sure if he still has it or not?

Earth (or whatever you want to call it) brown works for me! Looks great and it's obvious you are a Toyota guy having viewed your other Toys. Welcome.
Here is a 1977 pic of my '70 that I had painted earth brown also. Don't see that sort of brown these days much.

I was tempted to change the color but the "Poo Brown" as I call it started to grow on me. I can't say I've ever seen an FJ40 that color, Olive brown maybe?

Welcome! Nice trucks! I see a couple VW's in those old pics too.

"A Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has no radiator."
"Well, of course it doesn't! That's because it's air cooled!"

Those of you with kids might get that quote.

Welcome. Nice 3rd Gen. It's nice to see someone else who likes to wheel em.

One of those rigs is a SAAB 99 or maybe an EMS. Welcome to the forum.

Nah, Deano, it's a Saab 96. We later had a couple of 99s one of which was an EMS. Now we have a '96 Saab 9000. Suz was into Saabs before they were cool.
The brown of the 40 in the pic was a GM color as found on mid '70s era Monte Carlos. Remember those? The license plate on the pictured Saab now resides on our FJ62.
Brad, what front bumper did you have on the 60? It looks sweet.

Yeah, I thought it was a Karmann Giha...... Dang, I don't have any awesome quotes for a Saab96. Is it at least air cooled?

Thanks Crash, I made both front and rear bumpers myself. I modeled the front bumper after Man-A-Fre's 4+Plus FJ60 bumper and tweaked it to my own needs. Jim (2badfjs) was my neighbor at the time and helped bend the tube.

Not quite as cool your your 96, but my Dad bought one of these 900 Turbo's in the early 80's. Fun little 4 cyl turbo as I recall (from the back seat....). We drove it around Georgia for a bunch of years and most of the folks around there thought it was from Mars.....

HIJACK OFF - Sorry - had to partake in the Saab nostagia. Welcome Claude. Your historical fleet is impressive and you did wonders for that old 60.
