View Full Version : Rampart Range conditions?

I have a friend who just picked up a Jeep. As you can probably guess, he's stoked to do some 4 wheeling. Thing is, it's pretty stock so I don't want to take him somewhere he's going to get into trouble (well, at least reduce the probability some). I was thinking about a little run in Rampart Range, on Hidden Vally / Dakan roads. Has anyone been in this area recently? How does it run in winter?

I know there are some winter closures/gates, but I don't have the details. Give the Pike/San Isabel National Forest a call.

Yankee Hill is safe and fun as long as there are two people for strapping purposes.

Martin is right, Dakan is closed in winter. Hidden Valley might be open, but it can be sketchy enough in the summer considering how loose it can get and off-camber with the whoop-dee-doos. Slaughterhouse can be run in the winter pretty easily.
