I can't say I've ever seen that on the road down here. And I'm sure that would not fly under my Cruiser radar.

I emailed the guy about what he was looking to get out of it. He said the reserve was at 15K, and he wanted 16-18.

Where does that sit for a cruiser like that? I could see that for a rust free truck, but some of those pictures make it seem like more than just a little surface rust to deal with, and, my experience with rust says, whatever is showing through, there is likely 2-3x more that you don't see.

However, is that a good price for a rusty truck? I keep an eye out for these imports for my dad, who wants a clean diesel rig, but I never know what the rate should be for a private party sale.

What do you all think of that price?

It's hard to pay that much for a 25+ year old vehicle, when you really stop and think about it in those simplified terms.

But if you really want a diesel, maybe not bad. I saw a BJ74 get sold for $19-$20K a couple years ago.

$15k is not that bad....relatively speaking. I sold a 12HT drivetrain for about $7k. A set of cable locking axles are easily going for over $3k these days, and you can't find them. So, just in simple parts, there is $10k worth of stuff here. What's really nice, is you have a title for an older diesel, and there are some nice add ins here that get expensive when you add them all up. Gauges, yadda yadda. It's not a screaming deal, but 15 is about on par.

the rust that is there, is bad. only way is cutting it out. just for info. not saying don't buy it.

No doubt. Just saying that the platform is pretty sweet. If I had that 12HT first, I would have built my truck with that instead of the 13BT. It's a freaking torque monster. And cable lockers are the bomb....I run them in my 40 and they are so simple, so quick....really nothing quite like them.

In my book, buy a clean FJ62 with a billion miles and a toasted motor....but otherwise straight body. Drop the full drivetrain into the 62 and all the engine bay pieces and parts. Do as much frame swapping as you need to to make it "legal" on the diesel title (maybe it's easy to get a diesel swap title here, dunno) then part all the rest and sell the rust for scrap value.

It would be a lot of work, and I would rather try to buy the guy's 60 that installed my 12HT, but I don't think it's for sale. :(

Maybe Gary can chime in on that....he built up a sweet 12HT powered 60, but he also sold it.

I met the gentleman selling the HJ61 today in town. He currently has another one soon to be listed on Ebay and a 3rd in a container headed state side. He is going to doing this as a side business. I encouraged him to register on our forum and post what he has in the for sale forum. If anyone ends up wanting one I'm happy to offer a neutral inspection to the best of my ability.
