I've got a completely broken down front axle that I need help putting back together. Just ordered a six shooter hi steer kit from 4x4 Labs & it should be here on Wednesday. I'm basically struggling with how to center the knuckle & the shim assembly. Does anybody have a knuckle centering SST Tool that the manual calls for or know of away around this process to set the shims? Maybe I'm over thinking this but I don't want to redo this anytime soon. Thanks in advance.

Typically, you can put them back in the same locations. Did you keep track of the shims and their locations when you tore the axle down?

I'd be up for lending a hand with putting everything back together. When are you thinking about doing the work?

Awesome, thanks Ricardo. I should have all the parts this week. I'm thinking Thursday or Saturday. Unfortunately, I didn't tear the axle down so I don't have a record of the shim placement.

Travis:

I've got an SST you can use if you don't need it for more than a week or two.

I'll send you a PM with my phone number.

It will be helpful if you can find a 9" calipers to help with this. I haven't bought one yet (made due with a 6"), but I know they're out there.

Awesome. Pm's sent. Thank you guys for the help. I'm shooting for Saturday but I'll keep you all posted- still waiting on a few parts to show up.

I have an 8" caliper that I used and it was long enough to take the measurements.

The one I have came from HF. IIRC it goes on sale for about $30. Of course if you don't ever make it out there, you can always find it in my garage. :D

My office has now moved away from the ok HF in Aurora, but my home is only minutes away from the good HF in Littleton! :thumb:

Travis, did you get my pm?

Sell it!

If I weren't working I'd be there to lend a hand.

Quick note: prussian blue, dykem, or just really thick magic marker will be needed to make the measurements with the SST.
