It's altitude dependent. This is the time of year when folks start working on busting trails open, like Jenny Creek.

Lower altitude trails like Slaughterhouse Gulch and Rampart Range Road are probably accessible now, but at Rampart they will close the gates if they have not done so already until about Memorial Day. And Dakan's gate might not open until May 1, I can never remember.

In May you will probably be able to do Barbour Fork (if the gate's not locked) and Bill Moore (at least the lower section). Spring Creek maybe as well.

June will see the opening of trails up to about Summit County. We usually hit up Spring Creek on Fathers Day and Argentine the week or so after, though Argentine usually holds enough snow up high to prevent us from reaching the pass or most of McClellan Mountain.

Snowdrifts can hang out on certain trails well into July, or even August. That's why we head to Moab in May, to take advantage of dry ground there while ours thaws out! :D

Barbour Fork opens June 16, there's a gate at the bottom. I've run Argentine, Kingston, and Jenny Creek in late June and not been able to get to the top of any of 'em because of snow. For the higher elevations, wheeling season is less than 3 months/year- by mid October it starts to get pretty dodgy again.

Yeah, maybe that's why we go to Utah so much... :)

Me and BigCountry are going to do a shakedown for Moab run. We talked about next week, Wednesday or Thursday. Im doing a bunch of work on my truck, and I want to load it up like I'm heading for Moab and make sure there are no issues. MountainGoat is usually up for a midweek run too. Metberry and Longwater should be nice and muddy, so that's usually fun.

Keep an eye open here, I'll post something up. It's possible we may wait till the following week. Stay tuned.

Rampart is closed due to wet and the gate at Dakan opens May 1st. I was up that way last week and decided to do a drive by because I couldn't remember when they opened it up.

Got some good pictures, but not much driving.

I don't know Travis. We got about a foot of heavy wet snow in Conifer, with another 6 inches forecast for tomorrow and tomorrow night. Doesn't look good for "non-snow wheeling" as the OP was asking after.

Stan, are you still up for a run this week?

I'm out for tomorrow and Thursday. I work 10pm-6am tonight and I have to get this URB thing nailed down tomorrow. Thursday I need to do a little work on my truck. Friday is a slight possibility.....

BigCountry wants to get out tomorrow or Thursday. He's got the 80 up and running. That 4-link rear he built came out pretty nice, he wants to give it a good test.

Here's my number if anyone wants to rally (720) 987-4202. I've got the two little ones so an early start may be difficult but I'm game for a snow run up Yankee. I'll be up around 7 so call if you're interested... I'll have to switch tires but could meet around 10 in Idaho Springs with enough notice.
