Well today turned out terrible. My red 1988 toyota rockcrawler has been stolen from Englewood. Keep your eyes open. It has a green tail gate and a Colorado flag colored skull sticker in the back window Front Range 4x4 sticker in the front. 35" BFG Mudterrain KM2's rock sliders and custom rear bumper. 32708327103271232714

This is infuriating, I and all RS(I'm sure) will be on the look out. My 86' long bed Hi-Lux with NEW box and Wildernest, all white and shiny, was stolen in 1998. I am still looking. I feel for ya Justin. Check out the Stolen Rigs thread on the MarlinCrawler site. This has been a bad week for more than a few folks. Dean.

Squishy, can you confirm the tires for me. Are the BFG KM2 or a GoodYear MT? I posted what you said here and have a guy asking for clarification.

My guess is it's either already in or on its way south. Depends on who took it, might just be a jackass meth head.

Might be worth a call to alert DHS (Border Patrol), at El Paso in particular.

I have posted on our Copperstate website in Arizona - http://forum.ih8mud.com/az-copper-state-cruisers/729817-eyes-peeled-stolen-truck.html#post8483614

I will keep an eye out in the Tucson area. Best of luck getting her back. Terry

Justin it is worth taking a look in the Pecos/I-70 area. My 4Runner was stolen years ago and it was stripped and dumped there. Cops did find the shop about 15 blocks away with my tires in the back.

That area is unfortunately an area for stolen goods. I will keep looking for it and hope for a sure return.

Sucky! Federal and evans area might be a good place to look, too. My shop is by Santa fe and mississippi, and there are always beat up, abandoned cars around there on monday morn. Seems like there are some people over there that like to joyride. Thieves, the lowest form of life.

Damn that sucks. I'll keep looking as well. Hopefully someone finds it quick!

A coworker was giving me grief over installing my shifter lock every time I park a couple weeks ago. This horrible thread sums up why I do that. Dirt bags exist and unfortunately so many of us are driving around with $1,200 worth of tires, $1,000 worth of winch, just way too tempting for asshats.

Shifter lock? How does that work?

Shifter lock? How does that work?
Some I've seen are a heavy ring welded to the shifter with a padlock and chain that are just long to reach with the transmission in reverse.

For non-air bag cars one of coolest things are the Grant removable steering wheels. Dean clued me in years ago. This along with a couple of other things are probably enough for the majority of thefts. The truck could still be towed or dragged on a flat bed, but it's very difficult to smash and drive away with no wheel. The biggest worry I have with it is when you take off your nice Grant steering wheel you have to hide it so it doesn't get stolen...

To dave's point, many years ago when I had my first porsche, there was a theft ring that came to town. (denver has always been a target for porsche theft - always near the top in p-car's per capita)

my car was equipped with an immobilizer but that's why I wasn't worried. Their mo was to drive a shipping truck up to the parking garages or area and to use a flatbed to bring it out to the shipping truck.

Moral of the story, if they want it, they will take it. The truly sucky, evil ones are the crack/meth head tweakers or joy-riders who will ruin or destroy your stuff then give it back to you.

I parked it out in front of my house then occasionally, but when I did, I never locked it. To my point, glass was rare and expensive, and I would rather they took the whole thing rather than vandalize it to get something. It had a knob style blaupunkt (on purpose) with a theft plate behind the trim. So about 2am, the alarm goes off, (remember, it was unlocked) and I run down to see a twit run down the street and my quarter window was broken. did I mention that it was unlocked??? only thing in the car were a couple of cassettes on the passenger side floorboard that had slipped out of the case.

I hope it comes home unmolested Justin.

I've tried to deter the opportunistic thief, but when someone wants it they'll take it. It's just sad. Thanks guys I've still got my fingers crossed. I will for a long time I'm sure.

Shifter lock? How does that work?

It's a modified club. There are more eloquent designs for shifter locks, but I had a club that I wasn't using, so I modified the hook on the handle to pinch in a bit. I throw the truck in 5th, and the club pushes the shifter even tighten in that position, then wedges the handle under the dash and the extended end goes into the seat frame. A picture would explain that better, but it's particular to a 40. You CAN defeat the club, especially mine, but it is a visual deterrant and adds time....and that's all I want. It takes a few seconds to chamber the first round. :hill:

That sure won't stop a tow truck, but I figure it cuts out the dirtbag that just carries a screwdriver.

There are other things I do if I have to park in a sketchy area, but I won't list that here.

I have a spare 'Club' - now you've got me thinking. Thanks!

OilHammer
04-23-2013, 11:13 AM
Here's what I was trying to explain.
Butt end of club can't be lifted out because it hits the dash.
Tail end of club is positioned around the seat frame.
Club loop is pinched, which requires the club to be raised before you can slip the shifter out.

The only problem I'm seeing with Barry's truck is his t-case shift levers need different labels on them. I like that shifter lock idea, too bad I threw away the club I had at one point. kevinmrowland's is cool too.
