So as soon as the snow melts. (And I mount new tires) I'd like to go run the Red Cone trail (north off 285 past Grant).
Has anyone on here done it?

Yes, we've done this trail many times. It's a very nice day. Keep in mind that it will take a while for all the snow to melt at high altitude.

Matt is right, it'll be a couple of months more before we can think about going over Red Cone.

figure end of july for the trail to be opened.

Yes. I assumed it would be around July before it was clear. That's ok, like I mentioned, I need new tires before I go.:D
I heard mention of it on TrailDamage.com and looked it up. I got it mapped out, and gathered the appropriate GPS coords.

I know you guys have done this trail a lot. But I'll post an FYI on this thread about a week in advance, just in case anyone would like to tag along.

Take a look at our trip report threads on Red Cone. It was a pretty popular trail last year. You'll be hard pressed to find a trail in Colorado that someone in Rising Sun hasn't already done.

Reminder that red cone can be an after work run if done quickly in the long days of summer.

Sunset up there is sweet.

Yes. I'd like to run a 90 minute time lapse of the sunset from the top some time this summer.

So since I'm really bored and haven't' anything else to do this weekend. I'm going to run down 285 today and check out the road to Red Cone, (3927'24.37"N, 10543'17.80"W) just see how far I can get, maybe take some pictures. I'll report back. I'm sure it's blocked with snow (big surprise). But I'm also going to go out to Kenosha pass (3924'44.81"N, 10545'29.22"W) and see what's up with the road to North Twin Cone Peak. (3925'42.07"N, 10542'7.97"W) I'd like to see what's going on there.
I'll leave my CB on Ch 19 just in case.
*(Edit) See other trip report thread for report on this afternoon.*
