Didn't need another one but too good to pass up. A true barn find. Last tags are from 1986 and I am assuming it hasn't run since. Immediate plans are to clean up the wiring under the hood (at one time had dual batteries) and see if the 350 will turn over by hand. I am not holding out a lot of hope on the engine. Probably the reason it has been sitting for 27 years. Interior needs a little work but overall I am very happy with what I am starting with.

1978. I already have a 78 that is all stock - 2F - All smog equipt, etc... Since this one has already been modified I am going to feel like I have a little freedom to keep it modified.

Thanks Ricardo. Do you know the official name of this color. Yours looks the same.

That would be Sky Blue 854, also affectionately known as Smurf Blue. Used from 1975 through 1980. Check here:

Looks like yours will buff out nicely.

'78 should have headrests and wing vent windows on the rear hardtop. Looks like those are missing from your pictures?

Oh - and we need to see more pics of your other rig(s)...:D

Good Catch Matt,

I haven't actually seen it in person, just a lot of pictures my in-laws have been sending me. Currently it is at my in-laws place and they are the ones that thought it was a 78. Your probably right with the 76 year. Didn't notice the vent windows until you said something.

The short story on how this came about. I wasn't really looking for another 40 - but as luck would have it - my mother in-law is a realtor who had the listing at said barn find. The people who owned it are moving and couldn't remember the last time it has ran or had moved. A deal was made, and it and the title are now at my in-laws place. I am going up next weekend to get it and bring back to Denver. I actually need another 40 like another hole in my head but I couldn't pass up the deal I got, I feel pretty lucky actually.

Pictures of the 78 that I currently have.

Your other 40 is just as nice.

Thanks Ricardo. Do you know the official name of this color. Yours looks the same.

Matt got the right information on the color. Mine may look similar, but my paint is rustoleum sail blue. :D

Somebody was mighty proud of this rig. I like how the TOYOTA emblem was re-mounted onto the custom bull bar. Good find!

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to getting it back on the road.

Awesome barn find - I parted a Smurf '77 and own an Olive (653) '78. Keep 'em both ;-)

Hmmm You don't need another one??? Maybe someone in here would be willing to buy??

PM me if you are thinking of selling....

Thanks for the interest but I have no plans selling in the short term. Working on these things is almost therapeutic to me. I will hang on to this one and get it cleaned up, running and driving. With that said, I can only drive one vehicle at a time, and that is why I don't really need another one. I do believe that they should be driven and not just sit. If I find that I am not driving this one then I may sell it eventually. But I hope to drive it!
