I'm taking the Technician Class test June 1 at 10 AM at the Englewood Public Library. Anyone from up north also interested in taking the test then and car-pooling?

Good on ya, Keith! hopefully a couple others join you... be sure to post up if anything on the practice exams is giving you a hard time. :)

Thanks! And I definitely will. I gotta say, the more I study and the more I learn about HAM, the more I wonder why I hadn't done this sooner. It's like I've been discovering my (not so well hidden) inner nerd.

I sat to your left this morning during the test Keith. Thought it might be you, but the room was too quiet to spark up a conversation.

Well, nice to meet you... Sort of. :D

Gotta say, to anyone out there on the fence about getting your license, DO IT! My total investment has been $60 ($45 for a Bao-Feng UV-5R) and $15 for the test. It's really a no-brainer. It costs less than a tank of gas!

The only studying I did was to download the No Nonsense Study Guide (http://www.kb6nu.com/tech-manual/) and an iPhone app with practice tests (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ham-tech/id367033758?mt=8). I worked on both just when it was slow at work over the last month (which wasn't very often).

How do you get the zero with the slash through it??

KD0VUP is me

KDVUP, KDVUQ. Just copy it from above and then paste. That's what I did.

KDGWX, KDVUQ. One thing at a time man... Gotta work on my solar panel install next. Just ordered a 60watt. The fridge was super hard on the aux battery this week in the desert. Gotta invite myself over to your house soon to see how you did the install.

73s, KDVUQ clear.

How do you get the zero with the slash through it??

Alt+0216- just hold down Alt, then type in the others. 0176 for degree symbol, 0178 for squared, 0179 for cubed.. see the Character Map for everything else. expand your nerdiness. http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/smileys/tinfoilhat1.gif

Don't remember, but I Googled it a couple years ago...some fonts have it slashed. I just have it on the Sticky Note program on my computer so I can copy it if needed.
