What's up!? I've been lurking for a bit and figured it was about time to stop being lazy and at least make a profile. I bought my '79 FJ40 from Dave Spratlen's collection just after high school in 2003. It was my daily driver for about 2 years until I went into the Marine Corps, and it stayed home. Got out in 2009 and got a job overseas as a "tactical taxi" driver. At least I get to play with my company's armored 100's and get paid for it. The hard part is seeing the 1000's of parked 70's and solid axle 100's that the UN has. I get cold sweats when I see that place. My down time at work is spent planning my trail runs at home. My next leave block falls on the best time of year for Colorado, so it's on! I even get to make the Rising Sun Rally for the first time! Bonus!

As it sits these days

If anyone happens to see me rolling around Littleton (Ken Caryl/Wadsworth area), throw me a Cruiser wave. I'm only home for about 3 months out of the year, so it's kind of like spotting a unicorn. Maybe I'll see some of you out on the trails in August/September!

Here are a few of the overseas 100's. The UN has all the good stuff, but I don't have pics of those. Maybe I can coax them out of one of their solid axle hundos.

Diesel.

Notice the awesome orange shag carpet dash cover.

Visiting a nice old man with an anti-aircraft gun under a tree in his driveway. Had a nice D90 with a couple of peacocks climbing all over it.

Following that old man into the moutains. We ended up back in this canyon where there is a 5000+ year old shelter cave carving of an Assyrian king.

Up on the Iranian border. Actually pretty cool up there. The mountains are at about an 85 degree angle though.

I see some sweet 70's and Hilux D4D's out here a lot. I'll try to pay attention and snap some pics. I'm too used to seeing them now.

Thanks fellas. I'd like to do the membership thing, but I have no idea when I'll be able to make meetings and such. Never been part of a club, but I've always eyeballed Rising Sun.

Thanks guys. Quick question. I got some Metal Tech fenders sitting at home. My brother was gonna throw 'em on for me while I'm out of town (until Aug 16th). He's gotten really busy with work. Anyone know a good spot to have them thrown on? There are a couple things in the engine bay that will probably need to be moved around. Battery and ARB dual compressor. We've been using the same shop for years, but I think they're starting to get overloaded, and I'm sick of waiting WAY too long to get anything done. Thanks again fellas.

Edit: Money, beer, or food (or all 3) if anyone here wants to do it instead of my brother taking it in. Part of me wants to get it done before I'm home so I can be lazy and jump in and wheel, and the other part of me really wants to help out with it so I can gain some shred of mechanical knowledge.

You'll be much happier this way especially if the engine bay needs reconfiguring. It sucks but at least things will be where you want them & you'll still be able to use your compressor (because it was planned out, not an after thought & installed so that you can't get to the fittings!!!). With that being said, I'd be happy to help you out when you're in town. A friend of mine just installed them & said it was harder than expected.

Yeah, I'll have to figure out what I want to do. 35 days home isn't that much time. Especially during prime wheeling season. Not sure I want to have it under the knife while I'm home. 1st world problems.

You can wheel w/o fenders but I here you regarding wheeling season
