I jumped on the free carrier that davework was offering a bit ago to construct a jerry can rack for my FJ40.

A little cutting, some cold bending of the tweaked frame, some welding...

Went from this....

To this...

Modified the hinges to be removable, so the brackets on the tub are all remaining when I decide to remove it.

Wired the framework so the license plate carrier can be lighted when on the rack, and also when mounted on the tailgate. I welded some bolts as studs on both the rack, and the tailgate to accommodate the license plate holder...:blah::blah::blah:

I have steel diamond plate corners on the tub, so didn't have to fortify the corners to hold the weight.

Well done. Do you have a spout for that style jerry can? If so, where'd you get it. I picked up one of those at an estate sale for $10.

The cans came with a spout too...Craigs list....$25 for the three cans, and spout...Heck-of-a-deal!!!

You can nab a spout at McGukins in Boulder that screws onto the gas can. They are WAY better than the old metal ones that leaked and broke after a few uses.

Hows the carrier hold up when those cans are full? I'd bet there'd be a bit of flexing and bouncing?

Supports from the bottom fortify the tray quite well. I can put my weight oh the tray part of the rack, and bounce the 40 with no flex on the rack...

That's a great design man, great job.
