Time to plan another 40's Only Run!

I had to cancel the 2012 run due to a knee injury and surgery, but hope we can pull together a few folks and FJ40's in 2013 to carry on the tradition.

I would like to repeat our 2011 trip and run Argentine Pass. I think we could also add a bit of clean up along with the run as part of the clubs adopt-a-road effort.

As always, this is a run for anyone with a 40 series. If you don't have one, please feel free to join us at the meetup place and jump in as a passenger.

We'll meet at the Georgetown visitor center at 8:00, Sunday August 4th. We'll run the trail, do some clean up, have lunch and should be back to town at a decent time. I always like going back over Guanella pass to 285 for some extra scenery and avoid I-70.

Martin, if you had to guess when we might hit pavement at the end of the run, where would I end up at and about what time would be realistic?

I so need to get up into the mountain air... in the :zilla:

We usually are heading back down to Georgetown by 2 or 3, but some folks leave earlier and some stay later depending.

What's the record for most 40s attending?

I think 19 was the most. :thumb:

Is there decent national forest camping on/near the pass, if someone wanted to make it an overnighter?

Jacket

Definitely! There are tons of dispersed camp spots on the lower half of the trail. The trail forks into a lower trail and a upper trail, and the lower trail has nice spots along the river. The upper trail has some bigger spots and they are somewhat easier to access if you are pulling something big.

You definitely should. We're trying to work out the logistics of getting one (or both) of Dad's 40s up here for it. So you might even get a little convoy one way or the other.

Sounds like a good group shaping up already. Sorry for those of you who can't make the date happen, Randy and Drew.

Mr. Land Use Coordinator Matt, any chance we can count the hours toward our adopt a road service if we do some cleanup and public contacts?

any time you clean something up on a trail, you can count it towards adopt a road services, even if it's not your a-a-r.

Not to highjack this thread (too much), but took the Family visiting from Sweden on Argentine this last Saturday. Stopped on the lower road for lunch, and picked up the camp spot where we ate. If you have an electronic sheet to sign Matt, I'd be happy to put our names down.

Hoping to make the 40's run, but it's the same weekend as Boom Days in Leadville...Hard to get the :Princess: away from friends in the 'Villle...

I think Suzie and I are in. Drove home from the San Luis Valley yesterday afternoon and it took about an hour longer than the usual two hours from Johnson's Corner to Denver due to HEAVY traffic on 285. In fact, it was bumper to bumper, stop and go from halfway up Crow Hill to the stoplight on the other side. No big, slow trucks or anything, just massive amounts of folks heading back to the front range. What fun!

Yep, unfortunately the traffic home is going to be bad. :( the last couple of Sundays on my way home from work in Idaho Springs, it has been pretty slow. But, traffic never seems as irksome when I'm sitting in my 40. :hill:

I might take the frontage RD route into Idaho Springs and then the scenic route over Squaw Pass back home. I'll scout that this week and see if it's all passable.

We have done that exact thing several times in recent weeks - get on the frontage road at the US 40 cutoff at Empire, then take 103 over Echo Lake.

It's an okay view going over Echo Lake:

One day away....

Barring anything silly from happening, we should be there. Newly rebuilt engine is getting broken in on the trip home to CO, and so far so good. Even stopped to have dinner in Santa Fe with a friend...

after (hopefully) stopping a small tcase drip, cleaning up some more of the underside, doubling the stuffing in the seats, bleeding the brakes again (had a line off the other day), adjusting all the brakes, fixing the fuel sender, putting rear suspensions under two pigs so we could move them out of the way, and trying to polish the water spots out of the paint, we should be ready to roll tomorrow ;)
