View Full Version : Bill Moore Lake - Post Rally Run 8/25/13

We had a wonderful time! Ige and Pighead were in Anne, Ige's 1962 FJ40 on 28s, newcomer Matt was in his starting-to-be-built 2011 FJC, newcomer Dave was in his bone-stock FJC he just bought this week, and Paulo (he was at the last meeting and went on the 100s run) was in his 100. I was in Alice the FJ60.
Dave didn't have a radio so I loaned him my handheld. Ige and Pighead didn't have one either, but I only had one to hand out.
Anne had a minor carb issue at the trailhead which was resolved quickly, and another minor issue getting the front drive engaged, but after that she performed admirably and Pighead piloted the little open/open stock 40 admirably up the steep, loose rocks. They had to go fast through some of the mud puddles to get a good amount on the hood and fenders...:p:
Dave did great for his first time out in his FJC. Both he and Matt were at the Rally and heard about the run there; well I know Dave did because I remember chatting with him. He's new to the area.
We made it to the lake a little late. I told the group we'd be there at noon, and it was 12:02 when we pulled into the parking lot. Instead of the usual hike, we ate at the parking area, headed out at about 1:00 and were airing up by 2:30. Traffic on I-70 wasn't bad at all and I made it home by about a quarter after three. All in all an excellent day!

Airing down, and a couple shots from the lower section of the trail.

We stopped for 10-100s and some photos and stuff at the base of the big hill where it always drifts.

Anne is just such an awesome little FJ40!

Even with overcast skies, the Colorado high country is always just so awesome.

Matt's light bar, then some shots of Anne going through the mud hole before the lake.

The rest of the mud hole, then Matt's FJC at the lake, and a couple of some of the mining ruins as viewed on the way down.

Matt is the guy who just moved from Vermont we talked yesterday for a while.
I think he is planning on coming to the sept meeting.
I love that Ige and Pighead put Annie through her paces. She looks good out there!!

thanks for the kudos jeff. she definitely is a fun rig, and pretty dang competent for one that hasn't been driven in 18 years:eek:
i missed a few awesome shots of your 60 articulating :( did get one of the tan fjc, but it's not in focus, but still a cool shot, so posting it anyways.
and being young at heart, annie did need a splash or two. figured i had to wash off the grime from the 40s only run a couple weekends ago, so may as well make it worthwhile ;)

as mentioned, i took most of the pics over my shoulder while on the run, so a bunch were blurry, have in the pic, etc. the advantage of digital ;)

Jeff, thank you for putting in the hard work for months and making the event happen! Also for staying committed to the after Rally run!
Beautiful day, always great meeting new people and having a blast together!
Right at the beginning little Anne had a bit of trouble going over these deep holes at a incline right turn! A few soft tries and nothing, then all is left to do is hammer it all the way through!!!
As I mentioned Im from Brazil and any old country like mine will have lots of history (that I'm amazed by it) and Colorado is a great place to travel in time with all the prospectus/mining ruins all around!
Obviously most of my pics are a rear view of the run. Great watching everybody doing their lines.

The variety of weather, landscape and contrast of city-backcountry is just phenomenal over here!
Look at this tree, its very dramatic!
Anne taking one of many mud baths!
Lunch at the lake. Fun chatting with you all.
The water is pristine clear!
Then Matt playing with rocks.

This was also a very diverse little group: a very early 40, a 60, 2 FJ cruisers and my 100.
These are from heading back down.
The last one was Matt taking the tipsy spot and lifting two wheels at a time! Did you know FJCs could run on 2 wheels?
Anyways, very fun day. I hope I didn't bug anybody about heading back down so quickly! I just didn't know what to expect as traffic heading back home. My wife had to be at work at 5 and she had the kids.
I70 was moving pretty good.
I'll see you guys around!

Thank you Jeff, no problem at all! Love taking photos and the more I can share the better.
