Al's been fine with electric only for a year or so (CRF 230F). It takes more thinking to never leave the key on and leave the battery dead but it's alright. When the battery has gone dead it has been easy to push start.

Low power motors are way easier to tune and much more forgiving of bad tunes than hi performance motors so you can get it to where they fire first time every time way easier.

all that being said, if it had a kick start i'd probably use it all the time.

Alright good to know, thanks.. you're right about the low compression engines, I'm able to start the CRF50 and TTR90 with my hand, first push!

I did the kick start install on Dee's xt225. Very easy install. Got factory parts for $130. It's pretty handy to be able to kick start.

Real dirt bikes have a kickstart.

Dee smashed her rear view mirror last ride and some how broke the speedo. I'll recommend a fold out of the way mirror before you break the clutch lever mount. Also the speedo is a $250 part. So, if it get wet and muddy, clean it before you bugger it up.

I've also done a choke on the carb mod. one less thing on the already busy bars.

Do you remember where you got the kick start parts? This might be a good winter project... after a couple others get knocked out. Interesting thought on the choke, though it's kind of handy to have it up high like it is I can see how moving it would be cool too. I seemed to free up a bunch of space just removing that big foam pad from the cross bar deal.

Now figure out how to put the neutral position switch & indicator light on the KTM... :)

I got the parts from here (http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/part/Y-3RW-W0795-00-00.html)

took under an hour to install. I think I found directions translated on xt225.com

Take off the cover. remove assembly with snap ring plyers. remove spacer, install gear. Put it back together. Something like that.

I held the clutch basket with a piece of flat steel wedged between frame and clutch.
