View Full Version : Plans for a vertical bender mount?

I'd like to convert my JD2 bender into a vertical bender. I see some cool ideas on line but I don't want to put around designing something.
Has anyone gone down this road and know of some good plans? I'm gonna add an air/hydraulic ram, and I'd pay for good plans.
Any leads? Thanks:thumb:

Weird, I was just thinking that I wish my bender was horizontal. I think it's comfort & what you know- I started on a horizontal and this new vertical is kicking my butt! Unfortunately, it's not a JD2 so I can't help you much

For me it's space and portability. What did you find hard with the vertical setup?

Managing a big stick above my head was tricky. It's new to me & I haven't done too much bending with it yet. I did make an additional base, below the benders base, that allows me to level the bender on multiple surfaces. For example, I mount the bender in my driveway which is sloped. With the additional base I can compensate for the slope & get it dead nutz level! I'll snap pictures tomorrow if you'd like.

Here's my bender and its a home made one. The P/O had a machine shop CNC all the pieces.

It should be very easy to do. Just weld up a mount plate that will hold the arms vertical. The only other thing I would do is drill all of the pins so you can put a quick-connect cotter pin type (like for trailer hitch pins) into it to keep the drive pins from falling out on you.
I'm not following on the space saving portion of this, Kevin's is very quick to break down to the individual pieces and store on a shelf or move around when not in use. You certainly don't need to store it fully assembled. I think you may run into issues if you are keeping it manual, but I'd guess you already thought it through. I'm thinking of the ratchet arm staying where it needs to when you are bending. If you are converting to hydraulic, that is a different story.
