View Full Version : Flooded Crawl SPace

The creek overflowed behind our house and poured into the crawl space. Our crawl Space is now a swamp. I got standing water out but it is nasty still since the soil is saturated..

Do I let it dry with fans and wait or do I have a bigger problem?

It is just a dirt bottom, no vapor barrier or anything with minimal venting to the outside.

Lots of fans. Open all windows when you can to let moister out. If you have a/c, I'd run it when the windows are closed. Normally you can rent de-humidifiers but I'm guessing everyone available has been rented. Remove anything that maybe saturated with water- i.e. carpet, drywall. I've got a carpet fan you can borrow if you'd like. The biggest thing is to get air exchanging ASAP.

Do you have an in and and out? If so, pressurize it with a fan and keep the air moving. This coming week should be a much lower humiditiy. If you can find one, look for an old belt drive HVAC blower squirrel cage type unit. They move a TON of air. Kind of like this one: http://boulder.craigslist.org/for/3973574265.html

You are welcome to borrow mine, but I will need to unistall it from the attic. Usually you can find them cheap, and they're so darn handy, I recommend having one for your garage for the summer anyway.

Here's a direct drive one cheap http://denver.craigslist.org/for/3980152641.html

Centrifugal fans work very well too. All the pot houses sell them. I put a HUGE one over my cooktop.

Ventilate. Any equipment in there?

no equipment in there, it's just pipes and stuff.

Cool, sounds like just let it dry with lots of fans type of thing I can do that.

Hi Marco, just do what Travis recomended get air movement going. This will take awhile since the ground is totally saturated now. I was in Boulder yesterday and water was coming everywhere I mean everywhere, bubbling up through cracks, foundation walls and anywhere water could come through. Every basement I did in Aurora on Friday and Saturday all flooded again so I get to start all over again. Good luck we all need it right now.
