View Full Version : FCC publishing my address

Hey folks. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the FCC to not make my home address publicly available in the ULS database?
I work in healthcare and have always been careful to make sure my patients can't find me. Granted, this is much less of a concern working at a poison center than in an ER, but it still bothers me.

The only way to hide it is to use a PO Box as your FCC mailing address. As a FCC licensee your contact information is public for a few reasons, like any other TV or radio station. It's also public for your convenience, so that other hams know where to send QSL cards. I don't know that it's a major problem unless you're telling patients your call sign and even then do you suppose they will they know where to look?

Yeah, I figure it's a pretty remote possibility that anyone could figure it out. But you can find the address w/o knowing my call sign. If you search for my last name in the ULS you will find my call sign and my address.
I am the only person w/ my last name who has an FCC license. I am also the only person w/ that last name on this side of the Missippi River. There are very few of us Roussils out there due to the fact that we are bad at farming and most of us got wiped out one winter in Quebec. Seriously.

I still sort of doubt many non-hams would even know about the ULS in the first place. My guess is Facebook, LinkedIn or Google are going to give up more about you than the FCC. Those $25 online database searches will find your last couple of addresses, phones #, SSN, employers, family, schools. In the grand scheme a current address is pretty tame.

 Glad you don't live near me ... now that I know where you live.

Now that sounds like a great story for after-meeting beers!
