View Full Version : swing-out end table

So I ended up making an end table. It all started with the idea that I should create a bolt-on extension to my ARB jerry can swing-out, something that would at least double my carrying capacity. So that's what I did...

Then I got a new water Jerry can that fits inside where the gas can goes, and realized I didn't need the outboard blue water can... however that setup will be sweet when I need a can of gas & a can of water (like a :moto: trip). I also want a place to transport a stove/grill, as that always seems to take up too much room inside, and the RTT has once again reminded me I can't put anything else up top...
So I figure why not make an "upper deck" to my extension, where I have a nice flat area to strap something to.

The top is from a TV table that's no longer in my camper.. it's not quite big enough, but good enough. I also found some wood to put a small deck on the lower shelf. I drilled a big hole in the floor of the original swing-out, so we can access the water without having to remove it. Getting the water in is a little bit of an effort, but removing the right screws will allow it to hinge out of the way enough to slide it down.

And when I want to undo all of the bolts, I've got an end table. :hill: :beer2:

Nice. If the wood starts to show some wear check out Wal-Mart for a cheap cutting board replacement piece.

Yeah good thought on the cutting board, I've got one in one of my drawers which doubles as a nice lid for the tools below it, didn't want to hack that one up for this though. I've already invested my quota for this first round, not too worried about wear as most of the time this'll just be hanging in the garage. But a nice plastic top with recesses would be a good upgrade for sure.

Love the table addition Tim.
Bed Bath and Beyond has an awesome collection of cutting boards in all different sizes. I found one that fits my African Outback perfectly without needing to cut it.
