I have been considering changing up my side moldings, and today was the day. The nice thing about Plasti Dip is if you don't like it, you just peel it off.. the other thing with Plasti Dip is it doesn't always look that great. Here's the before pic:

And a couple in process shots, as well as the finished look. It's "whiter" than I thought it was going to be, also looks like I used Kilz or some generic ceiling paint.. not the thick skin I was hoping for, despite 3 really good coats. But after 3 cans I'd had enough, so off the masking came.

It's actually growing on me a little, I dunno.. maybe I should do black next time. I look forward to your comments.

Looks good.

But I think you're right. The black might have been better. Would have matched the rest of the trim on the truck. (Bumpers, slider, etc.) I think that the lines would have flowed nicely together in black. Just my $.02
Looks good though.:thumb:

I say go for the black and see how it looks. I think it would look better, but the white looks good too.

Looks better than the silver. My first thought was black too, but I photochopped it and I'm not so sure:

Good idea there, Martin.

Now that I look at it… I dunno either.
Maybe it should just be sprayed with black bed liner all the way from the trim down to the sliders...

Kind of matches your Tacoma! ;)

Sure! Blacked out wheels too.

I think just the trim and the wheels would look better. I can't believe I'm having this conversation about painting wheels.

The 100 Series MUD forum is taking over. Next it will be bulbs and how big of a tire can you fit without rubbing!

EDIT: Trim and wheels only. My vote.

LED's inside, HID kits for low beams and fogs. 285 75 r16's. :bolt:

edit: Stan, what's the best way to mask off the tires- do you tape all the way around? or smear them with something non-sticky? I know you've done this... :)

Ah man, the blacked out wheels and the blacked out sides look fantastic, Martin. Then again, I am partial to that look…

TIM! You should do it that way! :thumb: It would Rock!

I took my wheels off and did one at time so I could prep better. I bought a package of 1/2 sized index cards from Walgreens and slid them in between the tire and the wheel edge to form a lip and sprayed 3 or 4 very light coats.

For the caps, I wiped Vaseline on the sombrero and sprayed a few light coats. The Vaseline lets you just wipe the plastidip off without peeling the whole thing. I'm pretty tech......

before and after...I didn't like it at first, but now it's grown on me. I have to respray after every trip because of rock scrapes though. It doesn't hold up well. That's a PITA.

Honestly, I liked the Oem better. I vote peel it off. That before pic in the driveway looks awesome.

OEM or black. The white is too white. I don't like the black all the way down either. Too "high school". Sorry Travis....

Griff and I vote for blacked out from trim down including wheels. I think I'm going to PC the OEM rims I have, If you go that route, let's drop 'em off together.

I think you'll waste your money. Having to retouch them all the time will make the PC look like crap. Plastidip is cheap and easy and almost looks the same. My wheels are destroyed from rock rash.

If you want it done permanently, and done correctly… You need to have them Ceracoated (the stuff they paint guns with) it takes a couple coats and they'll need to be "baked" in a Ceracoat dryer for 24 hours, but it's some seriously tough stuff.

I have some you can have. Tried it, looks kind of blue-ish grey, I did not like it. But they also make a clear coat for after plasti dip spraying. Really gives it a glossy finish.

Tim, you should paint your trim band the same color as the truck and do your rims in a gun metal grey.

Photo shop that and see what u think. I want to do my wheels in that color. Let's buy some paint and borrow Barry's sprayer

It's hard to find a color scheme that's better than OEM. I think the best would be no body molding at all, but as we know there are a bunch of holes under there, so that's a pretty large project to omit them entirely.

here's one with no body cladding, and blacked out stuff:

Black rims with the silver trim & bumpers...

Yeah, I'm just not feeling the black rims.
