Tim's Plasti-dip thread had me looking at some old pictures. I pulled up some pics from when my truck was new to me. It's almost sad...... it was so nice and shiny. No dents, no rock rash, no pinstripes. I feel like I took a really nice vehicle and almost ruined it. It's nothing like the plush ride I drove home in. But, the times between these two stages are worth every dent, scratch and scrape and that's what really counts.

Gave me a good thread idea. Let's see your before and after shots.

I know what you mean Stan. Have done this a few times. That is why I picked a clean but older 100 to wheel.. Hard to take a nice 28-30k vehicle and build it up, only to abuse it off road.

I have to say the 100 is working well for me and the family, for what I am doing these days. I also really like the 2.5" softer springs with airbags for trips. Super plush around town and stiff enough for trips with gear.

Acquired my '99 100 back in August and had new Duratracs on before I even got home, but I saved a couple of pics from the AutoTrader ad.

It was easier to let the BMW go knowing that it was going to a close friend. So far I'm extremely happy having 2 Cruisers to roll around in. Both are still works in progress. The 100 will eventually be kitted out with a Slee rear, RTT, drawers, etc...

The 40 needs some Hutchinson Rock Monsters and a few other things, but it's really coming together. I can't leave things alone.

Cool. I haven't seen them since I bought the truck around 2003. I remember they had like 8 of them sitting outside. My friend and I bought ours from them around the same time. Both Smurf blue. My friend is trying to sell his. Just had a kid and needs the cash. I'd hate not to know where it ends up.

What kind of topper is that Keith? We have an ARE on our Tundra and I tried the RTT on it and decided it was a bad idea. The Yakima rack was sliding on it's track and there was some flex in the fiberglass when in the tent. Good looking Tacoma, that body style has really started to grow on me.

It's an ARE. Had the Yakima bars and the topper installed at Suburban Toppers. Never had any problems, and I've definitely not been gentle with it.

Ok...I wish these pictures were reversed, but here's the story. I bought this beautiful 1976 FJ40 in Louisiana in 1996 while I was in the Air Force. It was 20 years old with 70K miles on the ODO. I couldn't find a picture with the hard top on, but the truck looked BRAND NEW...all the way down to the original mud terrain tire on the back. Very little rust, absolutely beautiful!

After bringing it out to CO in 1997, I had a rollover accident in Colorado Springs. It all went downhill from there! I let a bunch of HACKS completely mess it up with a spring-over conversion where they really messed it up. It was nearly unstoppable with the V8, 35s and lockers, but it was not fun to drive any more...other than on the trail. I sold it in 2008 to buy my 80 series. Don't ask about the white 80 in the picture...I owned it for about 2 months!

I like this thread. We've had ours less than a year so it hasn't changed too much appearance wise. First set of pictures is the CL ad, last two pics are now. You cant see what changed when it got stolen like IFS rear axle, 5.29's with LSD, and Chevy 63 inch springs but the lift and mud tires are obvious.

Total rebuild of an offroading icons competitive rig from 2003. Was originally built with IFS and IFR. Failed miserably. Axles replaced with Dynatrac 60's and used competitively for 2 seasons and then sold. I think I am the third or fourth owner. Poor thing was ridden hard and put away wet. Several critical bolts either loose or missing, oil and nitrogen missing from the coil overs, etc.
Was one year in the process. Maiden flight to take place the first week in October.

Oh yeah, That offroading legend I mentioned was Walker Evans and this rig was originally built by Walkers crew chief, Randy Anderson!
