Another great Run the Gulches this past weekend. 11 trucks total at the rendezvous spot bright and early...... And chilly too! Temperature was 5 degrees at just before 9am.

After the normal parking lot chit-chat and burrito feast, we were all rolling towards FS360 and then on to Hackett Gulch. Trail conditions were great with some snow left on the trail and good traction from the loose gravel under the soft layer of white stuff. There we some other tracks in the snow up to Hackett Rock and then we were making first tracks the rest of the way. We didn't return to the pavement until 3PM but were still set on running Illinois Gulch and Moab Hill before dark. Only 8 of us made the trip 3.5 miles down CO67 to the start of Illinois. Just a short time later we were playing on Moab Hill. It was wet and partially snow covered so the going was challenging. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and it was after dark by the time we called it a day. We all descended the trail in the dark and aired up at Rainbow Falls Rd. this was a full day on the trail with great people. Thanks to all who came out and especially Travis for gunning, Steve for assisting, and Josh for relaying from HAM to CB. It was a great group of mixed experience and everyone was able to find something challenging. I'm working on a video, but I'm sure others have some great pictures to share as well. Maybe the 3rd Annual will be a late spring mud run...... We'll see ;)

Great run guys. Thanks for the burritos Stan, good breakfast, trail snack and lunch all in one piece of foil, ha. I didn't get many pics, I was solo on this one:

Paulo was helping stack rocks when I got a little high centered on Moab Hill after this first section. Decided to back down: another line for another day.
Sorry Paulo, that sucks...

Finger got smashed when Jackson and I were trying to push this large rock under MtnAddict's truck. I guess we didn't pay much attention to what each other were doing and it got sandwiched between the rock and the slider!

Split second deal and my finger was broken! It's all good for now, so far I'm being sparred from surgery. Will see the Doctor again in a few days and check how it's healing.

Here are some pics. I need something different than iphoto to resize my pics. Any suggestions? Don't want to crop them, just make it smaller.

Looks like a blast (except the bone carnage). Wish I could have made it out.

Thanks so much guys for helping a newby out on the trail. I had a great time. I returned without any damage! Thanks for the guiding and I'll work on that even throttle control.

A week already since we were just wrapping it up at Moab Hill? Time does fly.
How's the paw, Paulo? Break looks rough and if Cristo is still looking for stuck pics, your x-rays are them. You were stuck between a rock and a hard place - one of his sliders. Hope you are doing okay.
This was the first time back to the Hackett area for me since right before the Hayman fire having been there with the club in Jan. of '00 and '01, I think. Remembering what it used to look like and seeing the damage first hand was sobering and reminded me of the Jay Geils band song "Love Stinks". If you saw this area pre-Hayman Fire and haven't been back since then, you might find it interesting to revisit. The vistas towards the West are now quite obvious and you get a better sense of how big the Platte drainage is as can be seen in some of the good pics taken that day.
Thanks, Stan, for leading a great club run.

Hey guys, thanks for the nice words! So far I only got a fiberglass splint immobilizing my finger!
I'll see the hand specialist again tomorrow morning and we'll make a decision on wether or not to pin it and avoid healing weird or crooked!
Will let you know how it goes.

As for the run, I had a awesome time! Crash, I don't think it classifies as stuck since it took only half a second and I was walking away hurting!

That whole area is incredible and I can't imagine what it used to look like before that fire! You guys are lucky to have seen it before! I was still back in Brazil back then.
And love doesn't stink, I think love is great! I mean I know it. Those two did not experience love, they were fooling around with a messed up relationship and got what they were asking for. I know I sound harsh for some but it's the truth and it hurts sometimes!
I say that with much respect to all.

Having broken the metatarsal of the same finger on the same hand and having it pinned after a week of trying to do without the pin, I say go for the pin. It was impossible for me to keep the finger immobilized enough for it to heal properly. Good luck with whatever you decide.

My wife's aunt went through that and told me the same thing yesterday!

Just the snapping sound has been stuck in my head since that day. I have a weak stomach for that kind of stuff. It makes me woozy. :(

I broke that exact finger in that exact location a few years back when a high-lift jack (yeah, I know) mashed my finger between itself and a truck bumper. I know the 'ouch' - my break was clean and I had it splinted, and it's straight as an arrow now. Lots of PT to get the finger flexible again after a couple weeks in a split. Hope you heal well and quickly.

Got some new X-rays yesterday and the bone looks completely crooked so I'm going in to have the pin put in!

Going in today at 11, surgery at 1:30. Should be out of there around 4.
