Heard a rumor today that Onion Creek was open, anybody know yea/nay? Is it a good half-day drive that I could squeeze in while in Moab in two weeks?;) :D

I would imagine it is open. Watch for the extra saturated red clay roads if it's wet. Real slipery when wet. Pretty and scenic but not chalanging in any way. good camping, portable toilets required, $75 fine for not having a crapper with you.

They have big signs posted that say DO NOT DRIVE IN CREEK. To me, that says it is closed. We have not run this trail at Cruise Moab in several years because of the perception issue, even though our rights to run it were grandfathered in by our permit. With the renewal of our permit, I believe that we no longer have rights to run Onion Creek at all.

You can still drive along the creek and go up to Rose Garden Hill. Are you locked? You'll need one locker to conquer the Hill.

Do not drive in creek refers to following the riverbed vs staying on the established road. I agree that is not great for CM but good for a half day. You could come back down Castle Valley to hwy128 or down Sand Flats rd to town.

locked in rear on 31x10.50 MT/Rs. Land Cruiser calendar: October 2005 has a pic of a 40 on a bridge in "Onion Creek." Would that still be accessible?

Yes. Just stay out of the creek bed and you'll be fine. You can make your way to Rose Garden Hill, too.

The bridge is on the established road, so it's 100% good. There is more than one bridge, so there are lots of opportunities to recreate that shot. Just hike down to the creek with your camera.

Wells said not to run Rose Garden Hill alone, what say you? Never laid eyes on it in my life...

Wells has never met you. You'll be fine. If you get stuck going up, you can back up and try a different line. One locker is everything you need.
