View Full Version : Forced back to nights.....

I have been here eight years and am 4th from the bottom. They need 16 people to work nights, 7 have volunteered so far. Cutoff is Monday:(

I am grateful to have a job, don't get me wrong. I just wish the union would allow a way to remove someone from the forced list if they have been forced once already. I was ready to get back to some normalcy....

I'm usually up till about 1:00 a.m., so I'll chime in too.

Mike, I want to ask you about your photo gallery software, and you wanted to talk about shopping carts. When is a good time to call you? I don't want to wake you up. :)

I almost bought the stihl 026 pro but I know these impulse purchases are killing me so I brought my old crappy saw I like to cut dirt and rocks with. Bring plenty of chain oil. I swear that is the secret to long chain life.

Here's what you look like from here (sorry for the poor paint skills.. )

You have to enjoy emails like this,

"Hello -

We did not get enough volunteers for the new OOH team. Would anyone like to consider volunteering to avoid having to force assign by inverse seniority? If so, please respond to this email by NOON on Wednesday, Oct. 25th."

that blows dude. tell Pam treeroot don't work no night shifts, kipper says so. i can't believe after 8 years on the job you are 4th from the bottom and not senior enough to get out of vampire shift. they must 1. pay well or 2. they are holding you hostage and threatening to kick your dog (cat) if you quit

if it's not safe to talk here, just say the secret code word

I have fallen asleep at the wheel probably sixty times or so this year. One of these days it will catch up to me. Isn't it funny how our society views drunk driving but looks the other way when it comes to working long hours and sleep deprivation. I made the descision not to go back to nights for my safety and the safety of others. Now I might be forced to work nights. I have tried taking a 15 min nap before I drive home and I don't wake up. It is nice to go home for a little bit before I have to go back to work...

One of my first jobs was at Dunkin Donuts. I was 16 years old. Part of the deal was that you had to work a late night shift on the weekends at least once a month, 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. So I'd go to school all day on Friday, go out and party with my friends Friday night, then show up at work and work until 7 the next morning. I would fall asleep at the wheel on the way home.

To stay awake, I'd open all the windows in the car (it was winter), blast AC/DC on the radio, punch myself, move around as much as possible, etc.

Don't envy you, dude.

Maybe you need to buy a house nearby so you can walk home.

I fell asleep walking once. I never fell down that I know of but I woke up in the parking lot and I couldn't remember how I got there.

  You could move, or ever consider a new job:confused: . Sure sucks man. Reminds me of my friend Jason. Always stayed late at work. One night fell asleep after pulling a car into his bay. One of the managers came through the shop before closing down. Kinda freaked when he saw Jason sleeping.....

I am really close to selling everything and buying a small ranch in Montana. :D

Is 29 too young to retire?

If you can do it, and want to do it, why the heck not? You can always come out of retirement at a ripe old age of 33 if you get bored. Sounds like a kick ass deal to me.

If I was a single guy..I'd be tempted to buy an old airstream and roam the country for a few years..making money doing odd jobs when I needed...:D

so does this mean you took the other position? or got the one you want? or are you still going to be doing the same thing? and do the pointy teeth fall out or do you have to file them down? do you just lose the taste for blood?

treerootCO

I haven't decided if I want to accept the other position. They only forced three people this round so I am doing the same thing as before. I don't need fangs, the whites of my eyes seem to be storing all the blood I need.

Inverse Seniority?!? Gotta love corporate speak.

Still that beats getting letters that say, "Company X has contracted with a nat'l distributor. This forces us to reassess blah, blah, blah..."

well, it was fun.....now they want to force me back to nights and on top of it, force me to relocate to Highlands Ranch. I am not happy about it and my Union could care less.

Here is a good link to look at HUD homes. You just pick county. Winning bids look like 90-95% of the asking price. Some do go over though.

At some point you have to look at quality of life. If your fine with what you are doing then ok but it surely doesn't seem like it. If your just bitching and venting but truely love it then that's fine too but 7 grievences:confused:WTF  . I've found moving and starting a different job gives you different perspectives and a stronger resume in a changing workforce in which few companies value you as an employee. IMHO it's time to GTFO

surf the internets - it is a series of tubes ;)

I am just venting, I would rather go back to school and throw this career in the trash. For now, they pay too much for me to leave. I applied for the software engineer position and bascially got hired but they refuse to pass my resume through to the people that matter. Once I am an engineer, I get to work up North and I will no longer be Union.

This union is crap...unionize Wal-Mart!!! :D

I don't have anything against the South folks but the South campus is where the flagpole is. All I want is to do my job in peace. I can't stand the corporate types, and I refuse to drink socially just to keep up relations.

...I can't stand the corporate types, and I refuse to drink socially just to keep up relations...

D@mn! is that all I have to do to climb the ladder? :D

I'm in career flux right now too. Working for myself for about a year, but just took a job with a company in Golden... Trading my freedom for a steady paycheck. But at least now I'll be able to dump money into the cruisers without having to worry too much. ;)

Plus, we're young and don't have too many financial commitments, so it's the right time to experiment with the career before we get too old and lose our way in the halls like Romer. :thumb: :D

(oops. Now all the southlanders will want to come over and use my garage and welder and plasma. Bodaggit. Could keep me in 1554 though.)
