Great weekend all! Just got back, we decided to stay an extra day and take advantage of the amazing weather and get some hiking in with the pups. Thanks Travis for putting together a great weekend, we can't wait until the next one in Moab. Kristi may drive some trails there if I can get her FJC lifted and armored before then. :)

Yep. Travis' Runner is looking really good.

Sorry I couldn't make it out. Looks like a fun weekend.

Sorry I missed it. You all did not want me there to pass on this bug though! Great pics!

Thanks for the fun and informative weekend! Here are a few photos that I took and as always, more at my website (https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/2016/02/28/chinamans-gulch/). I can put a ZIP file somewhere if anyone would like all of the photos I snapped.

Baby's first trail damage! I really should install those sliders that are sitting in my garage... The door actually opens and closes BETTER than it did before. Pretty sure Toyota forgot to install this dent at the factory.

The obstacle where I took my damage.

Great views from the campsite in the morning.

Douglas, surprised you made it through the trail! You're on stock tires with open diffs right? Looks like you needed a pull here and there.

That rock sucks, of course I had a broken thumb that last time I had to drive through it...

I'm surprised, too! I don't think the Trail Damage report does Chinaman's justice. Considering my tires are close to bald, I have open diffs, and stock suspension (aside from a +2" rear spring lift by a previous owner that I think has sagged down to juuuust about level), I did pretty well.

My memory might be wrong but I think that I needed one tow up a snowy slick section that I couldn't get a good enough run at (when in doubt, use momentum!) and I needed some serious winching at the place I took the damage. Everywhere else I received LOTS of great spotting.

Seriously, I don't know how y'all put up with my mini truck antics. Had I realized the trail difficulty, I probably would have left my truck parked in camp and rode along with someone else. I don't mind taking some damage from taking an underbuilt truck on that trail but I do mind that I really slowed the group down as much as I did. Thanks again, guys, for letting me tag along!

Now to get the sliders sitting in my garage welded on the truck... :weld:

Boy, I just realized that I never did a trip report :banghead:

Thank you Tim for getting the thread going and to all who attended. Chinaman's is a fun trail but difficult to compare it to Moab trails. There is no shortage obstacles and it wasn't buried in snow so that was a plus. Unfortunately it's lacking that slick rock we all crave!

We did have Trail Leading discussions and John gave an informative trail-side First Aid class. Since there are so many obstacles, picking lines kept everyone engaged. Aside from that, I'm not sure we accomplished much regarding CM Trail Leading. Mainly because most were Trail Leader Veterans.

All in all, the weather was perfect and it was a great mid-winter camping trip. I'm pretty sure it'll be my go to next February when winter has us on lock down!!!

Bring it up this Saturday or Sunday and we'll weld 'em on! Better late than never!

Thanks for putting this together Travis! Fun day for all! Couldn't have had better weather in February.

Can I take you up on that offer in a couple weekends? No time between now and like... the 25th to do anything 4x4-related. :(
