Several of us went up to the Black Hills to wheel this past week.

It was a great time, and a really great place.

I ran 3 trails: Jake on the first day, Iceman on day 2, and Little Johns on day 3. No breakage thankfully, but got a couple of scrapes on a couple of lines on the driver rear. Evidently the calling card of the Black Hills.

I've still got to get pictures off the camera, but as a teaser, here is a video off my phone from Little John (the second, easier half of Hal Johns)

Missed it by a week, I hope you guys had a great time. I thought the black hills were absolutely beautiful! What an awesome place I look forward to returning.

Cool video.

Ignore the popping noises. I tried to be lazy and only disconnect my rear sway bar rather than remove it. It was catching on the frame and making a huge racket. Live and learn.

Just got home and will chime in at length later. It was BIG FUN! :thumb:
Uncle Ben, Swede says "Thanks for the slam!" and Brian says you suck for missing the event. :hill: I say thanks for getting Suzie and I up there.

Looks like fun. Good to see the new 4Runner out having fun. Did UB make it back in one piece?

Was great to see old friends and make new ones. Weather was great but on the hot side.
The tire god was angry with me. 4 on the trailer and 2 on the 80.
Lost the front 2 on the 80 with in 100 feet on the first day at the beginning of the trail. Really no major rocks. Brand new tires but must have been thin skinned. Lol Good reason for an up grade. Thanks a million to John for the set I borrowed for the weekend.

A different sort of TLCA event for us. VERY laid back and casual, very little testosterone and a whole lot of just hanging out and relaxing at the Black Hills Cruiser Classic. It seemed like there were only three guys running the show with a few more helping out leading trails. Trail ratings are a little different up there and the few available trails to run does limit your options. It is easy to see why buggy guys, like UB, enjoy this event so much. Some of the 3 rated runs ran alongside the 4+ and harder trails so you could witness what sort of fun the big boys were having. Rocks, BIG rocks, everywhere in creek beds that weren't anchored to the earth like we mostly have in CO so the trail would change from vehicle to vehicle. Three rated trails were mostly fireroads and the 3+ trail we did on the third day had some sections that would have been appropriate on the Rubicon Trail. Anyway, Suzie, Sarah and I had a wonderful time in South Dakota and were happy to bring home some raffle prizes including a "Mystery cash envelope" that had been donated by Uncle Ben and some LED flood lights that will be installed on the 100's roof rack. UB, you were missed big time by your Dakota Territory Cruisers friends. The Rising Sun Club was well represented by Isaac (AxleIke), Mike (Volcom), Justin (Bruiser), Nick (NickInNebraska) and Suzie and I. The Black Hills Cruiser Classic should be on your short list of TLCA events to attend - it's relatively nearby and a gas to be a part of. :thumb:

If this Tacoma looks familiar, its because its the All pro truck. The one from the website and all of their magazine ads. Guy who owns it is the third owner. Great people!!

Video John Kittleson shot, just driving up the trail. The trail is all old river bed, so its just nonstop small rocks. Nothing like what the big boys were playing on, that Aaron showed, but good fun for little tires :D

WJLQheIKnGU

Then we got up to the final section of the trail. This is Pinion falls and it was made doubly difficult by the muddy soup at its base: traction was zilch. At one point I could not even drive up a 3 inch rock. I wasn't hung up, but the 33's plus the tires being completely covered in muck meant that while all 4 tires were spinning, the truck was sitting still. Had to use a bit of throttle (the enemy) to get out of that one.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c263/AxleIke/IMG_3326_1.jpg (http://s29.photobucket.com/user/AxleIke/media/IMG_3326_1.jpg.html)

Heres a video before the muck got me.

H_EST6iAcC8

I finally gave up and tried to take the bypass, but by this point, the tires were so slick, the climb was impossible and and I pulled cable.

In my defense, only two truck drove it. The first truck in line, and a guy on 40's.

Even the All Pro truck winched, though he could have driven it, he was pretty puckered and opted to pull the string.

The next day was IceMan.

This trail was AWESOME. However, the one and only issue with the trail is that its only one way in and out now. The FS closed the lower entrance. This made for a long day because it allowed trucks to drive downhill first, who REALLY struggled (constant strapping and winching) getting out. It was much more of a "smooth trail, obstacle, smooth trail, obstacle" type trail, which is less tiring. However, the obstacles are constant from top to bottom. You just don't have to creep along over small rocks in between them, which is nice.

Nice 40 with my runner in the background.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c263/AxleIke/IMG_3352.jpg (http://s29.photobucket.com/user/AxleIke/media/IMG_3352.jpg.html)

IFS gettin it done. Got a LOT of use out of my newly finished skid plate (finished welding it 2 days before, painted the day before, and bolted it on morning of :D ), but that thing slid over so many rocks and got it over a lot of stuff that hung others. Pretty happy with the design. (Its black, not silver, but rather just covered in muck)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c263/AxleIke/IMG_3365.jpg (http://s29.photobucket.com/user/AxleIke/media/IMG_3365.jpg.html)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c263/AxleIke/IMG_3366.jpg (http://s29.photobucket.com/user/AxleIke/media/IMG_3366.jpg.html)

At the bottom is a big rock that UB likes to play on, and you turn around. I bypassed the rock, and opted to climb the optional waterfall (running the turn around in reverse). However, don't think anyone got pictures of it (bummer).

Headed back up.

Last Day was Little John. This is the upper, easier section of the Hal John's rock crawling trail. Even still, it was brutal. Non-stop boulders and waterfalls. A lot of fun, but lots of carnage, though only minimal for me, and no mechanical failure (aside from one separated Tom Woods Driveshaft). Don't have a lot of pictures.
