I assume you can rent snowmobiles up near the tunnel somewhere? Anyone know where to go to do this?

There are a few places in Summit/Eagle county. Check out Good Times, or White mountian. A lot of the places you have to be with a guide, and on their trails.

No place near the tunnel that I know of but there are places in the Breckenridge area, in Grandby, probably near Steamboat, Vail, etc. I did a google search once and I think this is what I used:

Snowmobile rentals (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=snowmobile+rental+colorado)

Some are guided tours for sure but there are places that will rent you a trailer loaded with ATVs, Snowmobiles, Motorcycles, etc. that you hook up and go...For a price though :)

Bunch of places around the Fraser valley as well (Winter Park, Granby..) and that's sort of near a tunnel.. the Moffat Tunnel :) Actually I bet you could make it up to the Needle's Eye tunnel from back there too, now that would be a sweet ride!

ya, up to the top of Rollin's Pass, and needles eye is a really popular place to go around here. I dont know of any rentals were they just turn you loose. But then again, I dont rent snowmobiles. That's what everyone who doesnt ski does in the winter.

I am looking for un-guided rentals for sure. I am not in to line dancing. I didn't want to go as far as Breckenridge, but if I have too I will. May have to look for some used ones this spring.

There is at least 2 Snowmobile rental outfitters in Gran Lake that let you take the machines out unguided. Nice area too.

You might check into some larger dealers in denver too as they rent PWC so I don't see a whole lotta differance.

Quick search for unguided snowmobile rentals....
