Pulled the XD9000 off my FJ40 for possible use on the LX

I noticed when I got the winch off that the wire cable is tweaked in at least one spot so replacement is in order (or I could shorten the cable).

Per Warn the cable is 5/16" x 100' standard (assuming original cable). I assume I should stick with that size and length, or can I go up to 3/8" x 100'? I've been looking at synthetic line figuring if I've got to replace the cable then synthetic might be the better option. I did a search on MUD and sent Warn this question but so far I've come up empty.

Any thoughts appreciated :thumb:

Personally I'd stay the same and go up 50' in length.

Wes,

you think 150' of 5/16" cable/line would fit? I've looked high and low on Warn's site for the drum capacity and I don't see it referenced anywhere. I was figuring Warn would respond quicker to the inquiry so maybe I'll have to call them direct.

I have a new cable and fairlead that you can have if you need one. Came new on my Warn 8000

Oh sure, TRY to keep me from spending money! :D

I'll keep that in mind and thank you very much for the offer :thumb:

For some reason I'm being pulled to synthetic line but I hope it is not just because it is the "in" thing, looks cool, and I can justify doing so since my wire cable is tweaked.

I take it you went to synthetic? What did you go with?

As for the wire cable...Is it 80' or 100' in length? I may take it off your hands yet just to get the winch back to working shape and decide from there.

For those not familiar with winchline.com - this guy makes super cheap synthetics compared to Warn's etc...

A few guys in my club have run his line for a few years w/o problems.

Coming to the meeting? I was looking at that winchline.com stuff (or x-line but it's only available in 3/8") but it would be ~$240 shipped. MUCH cheaper than Warn's $700-$800 cost but I'm thinking I should go the free route for the time being

125' does not fit easily on the XD9000. You are better off with 5/16" x 100'. We sell the Masterpull range and have them in stock.

Rockstomper.com is also a great resource for syn. winch line.

Yep...For anyone wondering Warn cust svc replied back to my inquiry and they say:

"The maximum length of synthetic rope that can be used on your XD9000, is 100ft.
As for using 3/8 size wire rope in place of 5/16 wire rope, this can not be recommend as it was never designed into the XD9000."
Christo, how does the Masterpull stuff compare to the other synthetic lines on the market? I never knew there were so many choices and they all seem to very similar...I still may just go with the free wire cable Waggoner offered for the time being and use the savings for other mods :thumb:

Synthetic is not just bling, it's safer. I run rockstomper line. You can, of course, easily cut to fit.

Thanks Bill...Rockstomper seems to have INCREDIBLY reasonable prices compared to others. Can get 100' of rope + 50' extension for about the same price or less than just 100' of rope at other places. I like the winchline.com "thimble" deal but more from a bling perspective than need :)

I got my synth line from them...good prices, nice folks. I also got other goodies like a snatch block and maybe a tree saver or something. Great quality stuff.

Besides, you know you need more bling.

The best pricing on synthetic I've found. 5/16" x 100' = $138
