Chris and I went to take our FCC Ham tests. I went for the technician level and Chris was upgrading to General.

Not sure what is more noteworthy, that we both passed or the lead instructor was an old man in in brown dress, cowboy boots and was carrying a ladies purse:confused: . He didn't even shave his legs.

I took the Technician and General exams this morning.

I passed the Technician with a score of 34/35. :)

I failed the General with a score of 20/35. I hadn't even expected to take it, but when they told me it was no additional charge, I thought I'd give it a try.

Now I gots to buy me a radio. :D

The big table at the front was filled with a bunch of old timers, who were exceptionally nice. What a great experience!

Pretty cool! This was something I studied circa 1981 or so. I could never get past the Morse code. I'm really excited to have passed!!!!

I've been taking the General practice tests in my spare time. I amaze myself. I scored 88% the first try and three days later I had a 25%. I haven't decided what I'm going to do, really I have no interest in HF so there isn't much incentive to get the General. I've been told after July 25th the test is going to be tougher since they don't have the code to weed people out from the higher certification. My second new to me radio is supposed to arrive Wed. I've decided to build an overhead console in the 80 to house some of this stuff. I have too much junk right now.

Funny how someone else can have your exact thoughts! Thats a bit scary in itself! If any of the Hams are on a run with Treeroot is their gunner, they will be all messed up! Somehow he always pings in with an important transmission when you're in the middle of a dropping down off a nasty obstacle! To many knobs and mics to choose from when your preoccupied....least it would be for me! :lmao: :hill:

I'm still trying to come up to speed on my GPS... yoiks!

I do have a spiffy RAM mount now, however, and thanks to Tom a laptop to talk to it... The loose nut behind the keyboard is the real issue, and I can't find a wrench to fit it.
