So, what was the point of going to New Zealand? Couldn't you just do this stuff in the states?

:p: looks like it was fun!

You can't be serious. I'd move to NZ in a heartbeat.

Honeymooned in NZ 10+ years ago now...We were on the South island and I too would move there in a heartbeat. Beautiful country, super friendly people...But that driving on the wrong side of the road takes some getting use to :)

Mike, where exactly were you at? We started in Christchurch, headed to the West coast (Greymouth) and down through Hokitika, the glaciers etc. and into Queenstown. Did the Milford Sound tour and what not, then back to the East coast to Dunedin and up through Timaru, Mt Cook, and finally Christchurch. Only had a week unfortunately. Can't remember where exactly this was but on the West side of the South Island there was this super long single lane bridge...We came across it at night and drove out on it and stopped in the middle. The view of the stars in the sky with absolutely NO city lights was breathtaking.

Other things I remember were that most of the "attractions" (i.e. glaciers and what not) were free and they had signs everywhere pointing out the littlest of scenic stops or attractions (like a small spring on a dirt road in the middle of no where). Most places charged for condiments (ketchup, 15 cents a packet) so we ended up buying our own from a grocery store :). Pizza Huts sold french fries which made the wife happy, and they put beet root in their hamburger meat . On the way up to Mt Cook they have an area where you were supposed to pull over and chain up (chains provided by them). We stopped and finally the guy came out and said we were ok to proceed because we had a 4-wheel drive Su-baroo :). Oh, and the view from Mt Cook, standing in the snow, and looking down on green pastureland was quite an amazing site.

Hope your trip was as memorable as ours was :thumb:

Very Cool Mike. Everyone I've talked to loves that country. Now you can tell us more. Can't wait. One should not have to go thru life saying I wish I would have ............!

So Mike- have you gotten your cheeks to de-inflate yet?

I learned from the first jump to keep my mouth closed. The wind goes right out your nose. :D
