I like Wilderness designation because it preserves areas of land for quiet use and keeps it safe from development, resource extraction, and other evidence of human presence - where the land fits a specific set of criteria and qualifies as Wilderness.

I hate Wilderness designation because it is used by many as a back door around local land use management, NEPA, the whole public process of travel management, and is a great way for a politico to make PR with the public without doing any real work and further her career - who could be against nature? It is being applied to more and more lands that don't meet Wilderness criteria. It is being used cynically.

Take a moment to put your electronic signature to a balanced alternative that protects access AND the environment from development:

BRC has been pushing this for years. It offers many of the protections of Wilderness vs. development, yet preserves active management and OHV access. Provides another alternative to protecting near-wilderness while not closing off motorized and mechanized access.

Done :thumb:

Took less than 30 seconds actually :hill:

HOWEVER...they are up to only 17,000 of the 50,000 signatures needed! Get the word out folks :)

EDIT: And don't hit "refresh" on your browser to see the names like I did :( Showed I had signed the petition multiple times
