So I picked this up off craigslist for 900 about a two weeks ago, but the more and more I do the math, I am just going to buy a ready to go fj40. So, the engine won't turn over of the 66. Top is gone...primer color. Some rust yada yada. I do have some pics. The title needs to be filed for. I just feel I might have gotten in over my head after thinking it out. I just want the space back. WILL HAVE TO BE TOWED! In Louisville.

what a shame that thing was seafoam green.

just to enlighten you a little.
NO FJ40 WILL EVER BE READY TO GO,OR IN NO NEED OF REPAIR,OR EVER COMPLETE.
if you want cheap and easy, something that never needs work on the side of the road,or doesnt make you smell like it,then a 40 is just not for you.
no matter what 40 you get you will be out at least 4k.that thing doesnt look to rusted at all.hell my rear channel is GONE,i dont care it still drives and wheels.
i spent 1300 on a worse cruiser than that one.and had to replace engine,trans/tcase.and a couple other people had to replace other big parts.
you aint in over your head just slam a motor/trans/disc brakes/driveshafts in it.or drop the oil pan and see why it wont turn over it may be frozen from sitting so long.
at least you wont have previous owner syndrome, everything will be your way.
sorry for the hijack

Yea, i hear that. My plan was to sit on it and work on it....but I have a job promotion coming up that will take what little time I had away from me......so it's it GREAT shape for what it is. But yea, the owner who primed it was out of his mind hahahah.

If everyone else bails, definitely put me next in line. I'll give it a good home.

 :lmao:

I even thought about it... Then I came to my senses. If I had more land or a garage spot i'd be buying them up. Til then I'll let others come to their senses. :hill:

i have a friend who's dad really wants to rebuild an old cruiser. i know he'll take this one off my hands, so that's why I spoke up. if he doesn't want it, i wait 'till everyone else come to their senses.

So I picked this up off craigslist for 900 about a two weeks ago, but the more and more I do the math, I am just going to buy a ready to go fj40.

Sounds familiar... My first FJ40 cost me $8500 initial purchase, then $4-$5K in additional work, and still was no where near where I wanted it to be . Sold it for $6500 (lost my shorts) and bought my current FJ40 for about what I had into the old one. If I had only known then what I know now, I would have saved myself a whole LOT of $$ :o

Seems to come down to whether a person wants a project or wants a driver and of course how much you can afford. I wanted a driver and very little of a project due to time available. Someday I'd like to buy a true project and restore it from the frame up and learn as I go. :thumb:

Don't count me out. I can come get it this weekend. I'd love to track down the hardtop. Its cold up here.

And yet, the last time I talked to you, your 40 was half disassembled in your garage Jeff! ;)

Please define project. :D

Ha, not to hijack but at least this will keep the thread at the top :hill:

Only the front is half disassembled (really just the bumper pieces and bib) so you know how bad it would be if I had a real project vehicle :(.

But, on a brighter side I did sand down some of the parts I took off and resprayed them over the weekend so once they are completely dry I can put it back together with the new bumper :thumb:. Need to find a piece of square steel tube for my hardtop hoist, get that off and the bikini or soft top on, and start driving it! Still need to address the rear seat issue for the kiddies though

This is tearing me up but I don't even want to look at it because I need another project like Ian needs another ski day! I have to pass. Go get it boys it's all yours! The hardest part of this for me is I have everything I need to finish the body work and set it up. Oh well..... :o
