Just got back from Gates BBQ (http://www.gatesbbq.com/) here in KC. Holy moly, it was goood stuff!! Got your basic combo plate with brisket, ribs ham and fries. Topped off with a Yammer pie. Just short of a religious experience! :hill: :thumb:

I just had some of their kind of thin/runny sauce on a BBQ pulled pork sandwich at a company function about a week ago and yes this is stuff to die for-almost makes it worth a trip across the Great Plains.

almost

My buddy Jeff called me yesterday and when I told him I was in KC he said I just had to go. It was good. He likes Brothers BBQ, which I think is just OK. Gates was good but I'm not making the trip down there tonight. There was a security guard in the parking lot and otherwise no-one on the streets at 8:30 PM.

Chris, are you still in KC? You need to try the other one, too: Arthur Bryant's (http://www.arthurbryantsbbq.com/).

In KC, you must pledge your allegiance to one or the other. Kind of like the Cubs and the White Sox in Chicago. Both are amazing.

Thanks Matt! Not sure if I'll make it this trip. My big job took us 8 hours today, reconfiguring three of our large storage arrays at B of A. So the beer is already flowing. I may just hazard walk across the parking lot to Ruby Tuesday's. :o

Didn't know so many of you guys got to KC. It's been several years for me. I was stuck in a noisy and cold computer room all day.

back in the day, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and before the Old Spaghetti chains were franchised, the one in Kansas City was an incredible restaurant where you could stuff yourself for like $5 and load up on freebies at the bar/lounge where they had live music suitable for families (with kids in tow)

Yeah and Cokes were like 10cents at the old gas station in those small small bottles made of glass!

sorry- just another memoir-really didn't want to be working today
