Since it looks like I will be doing some work on the 2f before I drop it in the 40, I should probably find a good engine stand. Anyone have 1 they are not using? Thanks.

Hi Timbuck2,

Coincidentally, I am currently doing almost the exact same that as you are, on my 76 FJ40.

So, depending on the timing of both your & my projects, I might have both an engine stand & a 4speed bellhousing for you.

the only problem is that my project is moving slowly, so if you are in a hurry I probably won't be able to help out.

Any idea on when you are looking to get both items?

no huge hurry...gone for a few days, and then still need to get the engine bay all cleaned up. could also take some time to strip and linex the interior while I am at it. looks like a fall-winter project now...thanks!!

I did just find a 2000 pound engine stand on CL for $75. good deal? that would fit my 2f...and 4 speed...and tcase. right? :)

Seems pretty good. Not sure how you are gonna mount the engine, tranny and tcase on an engine stand though. Or are you really looking for an engine hoist?

no, I already borrowed a hoist from Rezarf. :)

I guess I don't understand then...

just thought it might be easier to work on the engine when it is on a stand vs swinging around on the hoist....

Tim,

You usually mount the engine to a stand from the rear of the engine, so there would be no way to work on the tranny/t-case with it on the engine. That's where the confusion is.

ahh...sorry, did not mean that. just meant if I wanted to work on just the engine. I just will work on the hanging engine and tranny and tcase. :)

You can probably do a lot with it sitting on the ground anyway. :)

I've got a cheap 3 wheel stand that I'd like to part with (Cheap). I know the collective wisdom frowns on 3 wheel stands as dangerous but it held up my 2F just fine.

My younger son's 22RE has been hanging safely from one for months now...
I really oughta do something about that... :lmao:
