View Full Version : 1000 miles, and the darkside...

Well, in another strange chapter in Land Cruiser world...I have come back to the darkside. I traded the 40 for an 80. :Princess: The 40 was just not practical at all...:( With 2 kids, 3 dogs, a popup trailer it just wasn't going to happen. Sure I could have found a cheap taurus, but I still would get to take my rig wheeling, or camping as the no a/c, heat, ability to tow well and room/comfort.

My wife is going back to school today so I'm becoming Mr. Mom as well so I will be all over kid transportation.

So I saw a post on mud and we talked and struck up a deal. We met in Salina, KS on saturday for the swap. I'll miss the 40, but I love the fact we'll get to take a wheeling rig on trips with the WHOLE family.

It's a 93, it's got.
Brand New35's
4.88's
ARB's front/rear
Marlin Chromolly birfs
OME J/heavy ( soon to a bit taller)
ARB front bumper
Custom rear bumper/tirecarrier
MP3/stereo setup, new speakers
PHH silicon kit
SLee adjustable rear arms
Caster plates
Slee CV driveshaft
CDL button

basically ready to go...and I'm ready to go...It's been a LOOONG time since wheeling...The wife wants another 40...just stockish...

Yeah, it's ready to go and a better fit. Hate losing the 40, but we can really only afford 1 vehicle a piece and I'd rather have something I can wheel and take the family in.

I was just beyond happy to be able to hear and talk to my copilot on the way home from Salina. :Princess:

So what happened w/ the 40 hot hub?

Nice 80. That's my favorite color :)

Nice rig, and I always like hearing your commentary and non-mainstream mods. on suspension in the forums. When your suspension mods start, lemme know what you pull off spring-wise if you are not just going to add spacers, I might be interested.

FJBen

I need to finish that thread huh? :)

Basically I don't know. We checked it everystop on the way to Salina and it was as cold as could be I'm thinking maybe the brake was just dragging or stuck.

Yes, the mods shall begin soon :)

I have J spring front/ Heavy rear. It actually rides and drives very nice as it is. I would like to be about 1" taller. I already have the J spring rears so I'll just need Slee 4" or OME comp 4" for the front. So they'll be up for sale I imagine.

on the really evil side I have the link material that I was going to use for a 4 link in the 40...so who knows what I might do :lmao:

yeah it was a Warn 9K. I'm fine with that, I'm still really happy with the setup. I'm planning a 10K-12K winch. Oh I forgot to mention Metal Tech SLiders.

Oh don't forget "Nay" for white 80's :D

Where is Radar when you need him? :D Set it up, all are welcome but the white 80's need to represent! Perhaps a sonic somewhere in town one night. Green ones, sage ones, white ones, and one black 4:88 sheep. :p:

You better have a few 4Runners with winches there to pull them out...

80s in the snow are kinda like throwing your kid in the deep end of the pool. With a piano tied around his ankles.

My wife is going back to school today so I'm becoming Mr. Mom as well so I will be all over kid transportation.

Congratulations on the Mr Mom stuff, that's very cool. You'll have a lot of trucks, the 80's just another one. This time with your kids is a once in a lifetime. Soak it in while you can.

Funny thing....you stated you've had plenty fill of snow run for the year and I can't wait to go up again. Just for the record remember....I made the tracks ya all got stuck in! ;) Driving a mini across country with your buddy is kinda like stuffing clowns in a VW at the circus! :hill:

That is a nice truck. I ran the 419 comps with Js in the rear on my old 80. It really was the best of both worlds for hauling junk and playing on the rocks. And no spacers :)

Thanks guys, makes me feel better about seeing the 40 go. I think the kids miss the 40, but they sure enjoyed the heat last night and not having to yell at me in the front seat to hear. :D They are in love with the stereo, it's a kenwood that changes colors so ya know...thats pretty cool dad.

My 4 year old said she liked it because it was big...bigger than moms :D

And my what a trip that was on the interstate in the 40. 75 Mph, 11 MPG

I'll have to ask you some more questions Eric about the 419's...it's between Slee and the OME comps...hmmm
