I am looking at getting a RTT and have a set of Nathaniels brackets and crossmembers to mount them on my truck.

This RTT will also be used by Rachel and since Nathaniel's stuff won't work on a 3rd gen 4runner (No gutters), does anyone know if the stock roof rack on a 4runner will work on an RTT (say mombassa) or I will need to augment her setup.

I am 99% sure you will need to beef it up. The rack is not wide enough nor long enough to give the RTT a full base. The other thing I have found in my research this weekend is that the older Mombassas had a particle board floor that isn't solid enough and sags. If you mount it on a smaller base the support will be less.

I would add some cross bars that are the width of the RTT, probably three of them. Also make sure you have them spread apart correctly to even the load. I still don't think the rack is long enough front to back. I am sure there are those that are in the know and have better advice.

Have you looked at Yakima or Thule? Both of these systems are very, very strong. They usually have clips and mounts to fit any modern vehicle -- and I'm sure 4Runners are included. It should mount high enough that it can simply be above the factory rack.

Anyone ever seen these RTT (http://www.autohomeus.com/)? These are the ones that Mudrak sells.

Fins and things. Jeff generally bypasses that spot when he runs it, I don't. Its a blast.

Hijacker.

Those are the Magnolia's and they are pretty pricey

On my Eezi-Awn, I run 3 yakima crossbars. I don't think a factory rack would be up to it when the vehicle is flexing an bouncing around off-road.

So Mr. Bikeman are these roof racks something you can get through your store?

check craigslist for used yakima or thule. I use 4 yakima bars for my mombasa. She probably doesn't need that many, but I got a good deal on the extra two. Mine are also gutter mount.

Sorry Ken, we got out of the roof rack business because of the thousands of $$$ we had to stock in fit kits, etc, for the few a year we did. Rack Attack is the place, but I can get Thule easily, though.

I have a total of 5 load bars on the roof when the rig is set up for camping and expo stuff!
