Here's a question you would think I would know the answer to, but I don't.

What is the Toyota equivalent of the Lexus GX470? Is there one? I want to say its a pimped out 4runner, but it sure looks bigger in pictures - and talk of a 3rd row seat?

A co-worker is looking at one, and of course I want to help them fix it up right.
Thanks
-Matt

I think it's the non-USA 120 series Prado-I don't think there is a Toyota equivalent in the States...

It is the Prado which sahres the same frame as a 4th gen 4runner and FJ Cruiser

The Prado, GX470, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser and Tacoma are based on the 120 platform.

I only know 2 people with them and both have bad things to report. One is the A/C is under powered so it won't cool the truck while at idle. the other is the back door hinges on the wrong side, so when you parallel park to get your stroller out you have to stand in the street to close the door, then you can get to the sidewalk. Other than that I'm sure it's real pretty inside. But for the money I'd rather get a 100 series Land Cruiser, or LX470.

Matt,

A certain RS member and I were chatting about the GX470 one day last year (wife thought she wanted one at the time) and he didn't have all that much good to say about them at the time. I can't recall the specifics but it might be worth checking with him - IIRC he mentioned abnormally high service issues. IMO they are a dolled up 4Runner and they aren't any bigger really. Both offer 3rd row flip down seats. My wife and I actually did go look at a couple last year. I really liked the blacked out versions and the interiors were pretty amazing to sit in :D - Price wise the new ones may as well be made out of unobtanium. There was a place in Downtown Denver that had quite a few used ones for a decent price that we went and looked at.

Dunno much about the GX470, but there is at least one bad mo-fo out there. The Four Wheeler built-up TraiLex.

That dent in the door just set the owner back $1000 :p: Wonder what else happened on that trip ..............

My friend owns one in DC and he loves it. When I went to visit him he wasn't to happy when I told him he has a 4Runner on steroids.........oh well. They did name it 4wheeler of the year several years back, not sure when.

As mentioned before, I would rather put my $$$ into a 100 and have more parts available to play with.

Four Wheeler named it their 4WD of the Year back in like 2003 and 2004. They got a lot of slack over that, so they put their money where their mouth was. They built one to run the Rubicon. Did it with a fabb'ed up 3" lift, 33" tires and some homemade armor.

Too bad the guy can not drive that well. It does have a v-8 and lots of goodies.
