Does anyone have any experience with or use a Buddipole?

http://www.buddipole.com/index.html

They look interesting for MC/backcountry 4x4 travel when in base camp.

Looks pretty cool, but $199 is pretty steep.

Based on how it is constructed and some of the feedback I have heard, the price is really good. Look at what you get for $199:

Antenna system comes complete with
two 22" black anodized aluminum arms,
2 multi-band coils (40m - 10m) with adjustable coil tap system (includes 3 removable taps, with coils premarked for 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters -- 6 and 2 meters are configured without coils),
2 stainless steel telescopic whips,
the VersaTee™ with 3/8" x 24 adapters, BNC/PL259 coax connector assembly (includes RF beads) with 25' of coax,
nylon "packcloth" carrying bag with stretch velcro strap,
black thermoplastic carrying case,
and operating manual.

That is 2 coils for 9 different bands, all that material and connectors, RF beads, 25' of coax, the backpack and carrying case? $199 is cheap!

The only thing missing is YOU!

FT-817 QRP all mode 1.6MhZ-440MhZ radio:
$599 (Battery pack included)
Buddipole setup:
$199

Total cost to go to an exotic island and sip cervezas and talk to the world:
$798 (sans travel costs)

Bragging to me:
Priceless.

...but might a BuddiPole be a good starting point for the RS repeater you were all kicking around for Cruise Moab?

Granted it's not a 60' tower, but hey, it might be good to just sneak out and set up somewhere for the week.

Possibly camo paint the thing Moab red to blend in better, anchor & sand bag it, and tuck your repeater equipment in ammo cans, action packers or Pelican cases...

...possibly put in a PV panel & battery bank to meet power needs?

...just thinking here.

Hey guys I am new to this group, BUT I have a Buddipole, and I love it.... I have used it portable from many places... Dominican Republic, Mexico, and marine mobile on Horsetooth Res. just this week. I will be taking it to Hermit park later today...I rarely leave home without it. Cheers, Bob kc0kbp
