I'm rebuilding a 1975 2F and I've noticed that there are a couple options for where to position the alternator. Is the upper front passenger side location any better than the lower drivers side location? I'm not going to have a smog pump and power steering isn't in the plan for now. Since I don't have the bracket for the upper location, I'll probably just use the lower bracket that came off my '72 F motor unless someone tells me otherwise. Thoughts? Thanks.

Upper passenger side is stock on a USA spec 75. Lower driver's side is stock on non-USA and earlier incarnations. I would go with stock for wherever your harness is meant to be unless you are building a new harness. Since you wrote that you aren't doing a P/S conversion, then the pump location won't be a factor.

Assuming you have the proper stock brackets, stock upper passenger side will probably be best for your application. Happy cruisin'!

Thanks for the suggestions Jeff. The alternator was located on the lower driver's side on the original F motor, so I'm just going to use that same location. I hope to have my cruiser project running under its own power in April.

So the doner is a 75 but the recipient is a 72? In which case the stock harness will be lower passenger side. Not that you can't use either spot, but less work to not have to extend the harness to the other side eh? Not to mention brackets, etc.

Correct. The motor is a '75 2F and it's going into a 1972 FJ40. The alternator bracket on the 1F was on the lower front drivers so I'm assuming the wiring should be on that same side. I'll look again soon.
