So the new 40 failed emissions early this week: hydrocarbons around 800ppm with 600 being the limit. Took it to a guy in Boulder (thanks Drew) that tweaked the timing a bit (retarded 15* I think he said), and leaned out the mixture. Took it back today and she squeaked by. Not sure how the emissions guys make the call, but my numbers at idle were below the limits, but my 2500 RPM numbers for HC and CO were both over the allowed limits by a pretty good bit- hmmm? Is it an average or something?

Most of my emissions stuff is still in tact, although the air pump is MIA.

Anyway - got 5 year plates, so I'm good to go.

Question - So I'm assuming that these adjustments made to pass emissions will reduce engine performance a bit? Loss of horsepower? My 40 came from sea level, so I'm guessing it could stand a re-jetting in the carb. What else should I do to get the most out of it up here?

try three bottles of heat. granted, i also tweaked the heck out of the carb (god, i hope i can get it back before cm), but i went from about 1600 to 169. nothing quite like straight alcohol.

btw, got a letter from the state of colorado and a phone call recently on them "investigating" my claim against the incompetant monkey's at aircare. we'll see what happens.
