finally got started on the sliders today. everything was going great untill I ran out of oxygen for the cutting torch... oh well, I got one welded up... one more to go. Thanks for the tip on using the board as a spacer Bill, I know it sounds simple but I probably would have not done it like that and made it harder on myself..

Looking good Marco!

Man, that is some BEEFY tubing in the background of that last pic

That should do VERY nicely.

If you find you want to protect the doors a bit more, welding on an extension should be a snap too. Looking at Christo's early sliders on Inukshuk's 80 yesterday, it would be a simple matter of getting some more 2x4 tube and stitch welding it on. Then if it gets damaged, it would be easily replaced too.

thanks guys!

That tubing in the backround of the pictures was what the front bumper started life as, and will be the parts for the rear bumper if I get to it before Moab. I was thinking about welding tubes to the edges of the sliders to act as steps and more protection... do you guys that have them hit them often? could I get away with not having them? I guess the safe answer is put them on...

I still have some round stock you are welcome to, as well as some smaller square, about 1.5 I think...

they look great :) what wall thickness are they? I used 2x4 .250 in my last rig for sliders and they were great, plenty strong took lots of hits easy and nice and low profile.

I figured when the cheapy trail-gear sliders on my truck now get to dented up I will cut them off and go back to square tube :)
