View Full Version : Night run ideas?

04-22-2008, 11:10 AM
Ever since hearing about Brian Ellinger and crew doing Golden Spike at night (and doing half of Kane Creek myself at night, stopped before the shelf road to camp), I've had a hankerin' to do a night run at Moab prior to the CM event itself.

Just an idea. So what trails would you do at night there? Not thinking an all nighter, just a dusk to late night run, back in time for any camp frivolities. The view from Poison Spider would be stellar at night (pun intended), but might be a tad spooky going back down.

Sounds fun, wish I was able to get out there early.

Kipper, what trail did we get lost on at night? It was the year O'Neill's dad came...

That was too funny!

I'm down for sure.

LMK what day.

What about Metal Masher? Nothing really to fall off of there, and since widowmaker is all but impossible, it would be a fun trail.

Plus, night shots in Mirror Gulch with rocklights would look SWEET!

Bill, if you want to plan one during the event I would be up for it. I can't get out there early so that is not an option......................or is it??? Stay posted.

Metal Masher would be a fun candidate. Thinking Sunday, Monday or Tuesday late afternoon/ night? Alcohol free of course.

Hey, I found a .gpx from TrailDamage.com. Not Garmin friendly but Delorme likes it fine. So we won't get lost... :lmao:

Monday night would be good - I gotta run Tuesday night down for the Overnight Run.

It could be a Monday BBQ under the stars. Well, that *might* be biting off a bit much, but something like that.

Sounds Awesome!

Let's make it so.

So, Monday toward evening we can meander up to Metal Masher, watch the sun set at the beginning of the trail, wheel Mirror Gulch at dusk, and have some fun. See the stars and Moab lights at the overlook and have an evening snack. (do I recall correctly that Moab can be seen at the top? Oh well, if not, the stars certainly can. Somebody can bring a guitar and we can sing Kum-Bay-Yah or something).

And skip Widowmaker! :lmao:

Man now I am jealous.........I should have gone for the week. Of course Sharon may not think that is such a great idea.

Tuesday also Puhlease! I won't get there till Tuesday afternoon and want to shine my new BIG driving lights and Slee upgraded wiring harness.

Or, I'll organize a Tuesday run. I was thinking Gemini Bridges, 1/2 Fins or Klondike Bluffs because none is too long.

04-24-2008, 03:06 PM
Gee, those would be fun too.

04-24-2008, 04:54 PM

Well, there is a tuesday run on fins, for the afternoon. Drew, myself, and Bill would be doing it. Its gonna be a later afternoon run, so you'll have a shot at running those big lights if you want.

As for the monday metal masher run, sounds good. Who's gonna do rock chucker in the darK????

I would be... um... uh... hesitant. Yeah, that's it.
The fun thing about night runs is it gets your adrenaline going just to cover normal obstacles.
It would be a bummer to have an incident at night before the whole thing even got started.

I'm not. I figured we might get the chilli up there!

So, do we have a time? I guess I'll get to the camp ground at 7?

I'm leaving in the AM pretty early, I'll try and ring Rezarf to check for me if I don't see a response.

04-26-2008, 01:16 AM
7 Monday night? Sounds tight if that is when you are getting to the campground.

I will be there from Saturday. Guess we will wing it?

Shoot me a call Monday I guess, cell is on the PM I am sending. Hey, if it doesn't work out for ya Monday sounds like there will be something Tuesday.

04-26-2008, 01:39 AM
I am leaving tomorrow.

I can get to the campground whenever. All that was said before was "meander up to metal masher", but no times. I took a guess at 7 being a good time to leave for the trail.

I'm just looking for a time to be at the camp ground or wherever we are meeting. That was all.

Thanks for the cell, I will ring you monday!
