View Full Version : Scrap steel sources in or around Louisville/Denver?

Howdy everyone, it was nice to meet so many of you last night at the meeting.
I was wondering if there are any local places to pick up scrap steel around here? I am looking for a cheaper way to practice welding with heavier metal and I could always benifit from saving some coin if I find some good metal by the pound.
Thanks in advance.

You are welcome to dumpster dive in our scrap steel dumpster at work, provided you check in with the front office and have Kyle, Nathaniel, or me escort you around. The scrap is clean and makes for good practice pieces, and there's usually a variety of thick and thin pieces. We are Epocs Manufacturing, and we're located about one mile north and one mile east of the intersection of Highway 66 and Interstate 25 (exit 243). Call first before driving out. Send me a pm to get the phone number.

I was gonna suggest a local Jeep dealer, but I don't think my Godfather, who works for Daimler/Chrysler in Detroit would find my suggestion humorous...

I usually have quite a few odd's and ends, and there are several places to pick up remnants.
K&K Surplus: commerce city
Adams City Steel: commerce city
Atlas Metals: downtown denver
You will pay by the pound, I have accounts, so I don't know if the price is different, but I pay between 30 and 50 cents per pound for mild steel, hi-ten, 4130 and stainless.
