This thread is for the use of "DAMHIK" (Don't Ask Me How I Know). Use it here as much as you want. Henceforth, it shall be retired from use on the rest of the forum.

I'll start:

When drinking beer in a crowded theater, don't bring bottles. DAMHIK.

Don't juggle supergule. DAMHIK.

Don't buy condoms at the gas station in Bailey, CO. DAMHIK.

Car seats work best when you actually secure them to the back seat. If you just strap the kid to them, they'll tip over when you go around that first sharp corner. DAMHIK...

Just because your son can skedaddle up Double Whammy when you can't without a LOT of work and GOOD spotting, don't think that now you've mastered it and can do the same line without spotting. DAMHIK

I'll let you figger out which ones fall under DAMHIK.
Things to teach a newbie not to do, lest he/she learn it the same way we did:
1) When the truck is running, don't touch the exhaust.
2) When the truck is running, don't stick your fingers near the fan blades.
3) When the truck is running, keep lose clothing away from belts.
4) When the truck is running, avoid touching possibly bad plug wires. That one was fun. Oops
5) When the truck is running, don't take the oil cap off.
6) Don't pull the wire off the coil while the engine is running. Yes, it will stop the engine, but not after sending 10 000 V through you to your knee or willy which ever is closest to the metal bumper.
7) Don't bump your mechanics stethoscope against a a moving part- like a cooling fan. The next sound you hear may not be a knock.
8) Don't drop the hood while your head is still under it.
9) Don't pull the gear shift out of gear on a hill unless the hand brake works or you are in the car.
10) If a bolt isn't going in easily, don't force it unless you like drilling. And as a bonus, tapping.
11) Make sure your face isn't in line with the trajectory of a the oil/ coolant when you undo the drain bolt. Gravity may not be the only force you need to consider here.
12) And finally... make sure the truck is NOT in gear when you are under it with the breaker bar and ask your wife to start the motor and let out the clutch for *just* a half second...

Oh, I forgot lucky 13.

13) Don't tell yourself the cooling system on your dirt bike could not possibly be hot yet, and certainly not under pressure since you are chasing a leak, after all. Then pull the cap, having convinced yourself.

DAMHIK. Did you know it takes a minute to realize you just scalded your face?:o
